| Dr. Phil yesterday Did anyone see Dr. Phil yesterday. It was a "classic" episode from awhile back but there was a couple that was going through financial problems. They had filed for bankruptcy once and were still struggling. He asked them what finances they had and they mentioned $150 for cable, football for their son, cheerleading for their daughter and they had 6 pets. I believe it it was 3 dogs, 2 cats and a lizard. Dr. Phil made some suggestions on things they should consider doing to cut down their finances and one of them was to get rid of the pets Am I the only one who finds this shocking? They lived in a nice house, they can pay $150 for cable, football for their son and cheerleading for their daughter (who didn't want to do it anyway) but they can't afford to keep their pets? Dr. Phil gave an update after the show and they did "find new homes for the pets". What are your thoughts? Do you think it was a wise decision? DO you think it was better for the pets? I want to know what they did to find new homes for these fully grown adult dogs...

| I think they should have gotten rid of the cable, the name brand clothes the football and the cheerleading before the pets. Alot of people think of pets as disposable rather than members of the family so I am not surprised to hear that.

| Well, cable, football and cheerleading should have been taken off the budget before the pets, for sure. Why toss out a family member so you can watch cable? Maybe these pets are better off in their new homes, homes where they will not be kicked to the curb because the family cannot be practical about their spending. People like that will probably always have financial problems. I hope the pets have wonderful lives now with families who love them.

YT 500 Club Member | I find it so typical of people today the first thing to go is the pets. Rescue kennels over here in England are ful of pets who's owners are giving them up due to financial problems. However even rescue organisations are beginning to doubt this excuse as so many are staffies and staffie crosses, a current fad amongst young people. What I find desturbing is some-one like Dr Phil should suggest it. Would you suggest to some-one to 'give away their kids due to financial difficulties? |

| Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one! I don't remember Dr. Phil suggesting that they should get rid of the curricular activities. Then again, I don't have kids so maybe I have a different view on that?

Thor's Human Donating Member | What kind of pets were they? For cats, honestly, they don't care much where they are as long as they get fed. For dogs... well, the medical care can be very expensive. I guess I can see it as a decision that your dog would be better off with someone else. But no, I wouldn't trade Thor for cable, and I loooooooooove cable.

| i saw the end where dr phil said that pets need lovin care and attention too and if they cant give it to those animals, then give them to someone who will. he also said that he is an animal lover and wants no harm to them, and the best thing to do is find them a great home and people who can love them and take care of them like they should be taken care of

| Hmmm, It sounds to me like the family is living beyond their means. What happened to kids having to work for things (including activities). I used to babysit allot when I was a teenager. I would of told them to get rid of the cable and if the kids want anything extra, then they could help pay for football, cheerleading and even the cable TV. Sorry, guess I think kids are spoiled and the parents aren't teaching them to budget or manage money. If they are that busy with practices they probably eat out allot also. I don't see a reason to get rid of the pets, there are allot of way's of cutting corners and making ends meet and if need be sell a few material items sitting around the house for some extra cash.

| LOL, I just think Dr. Phil was way off on this one. I used to have an acquaintance who both she and her husband sold their house, went to Hawaii, would go camping so had to have a nice van and camp trailer, big screen TV etc. We took care of her Quaker (bird) everytime they went out of town because we were their "free animal care". I remember thinking, "It must be nice". Well to make a long story short, they lost everything and I believe I had heard they filed Bankruptcy (he owned a auto shop). I had to buy them meds for their bird when it was sick. Funny where people's priorities are.

| Well number one I think that sports and ex-curr activites are good for kids, after all...... the Dr encourages that on his troubled kids shows.... and number two if they didnt have cable they couldnt watch dr phil so like he would reccomend that!!! LOL just some thoughts. Pets were the only thing that he could recommend without being hypocritical or losing viewers lol.
