| I hurt myself I was digging up posts from our split rail vinyl fence today, and I had to break the cement off with a shovel. I had a short shovel, about 2.5 feet long, and held on to the end of the shovel with my left hand as I was chipping the cement off. Well a couple of times my wrist really absorbed the impact, and it made me about scream. Well my wrist bothered me all day, but me being me, I had to get it all done. Now tonight I have shooting pains up to my elbow and into my fingers from my wrist. I cannot hardly grasp, and I cannot hang my hand at my side without terrible pain. Is it possible I hurt it that badly just from chipping cement?? I am not going to the ER over this, not with all the sick people there at night, but should I see the doc in the am maybe? I dont want to look silly going there for something little. Oh, and the palm of my hand is all bruised, pretty badly, which just started a little while ago, I can barely touch it.

| You should definately ice it down. I will help with the swelling and the pain. Wow, sounds like you did a number on it. Ice it, keep it elevated and take something for the pain. I would stay away from asprin because it can make the bruising worse. Hope you feel better tomorrow. If not call your doc.

| I would definitely go in tomorrow - you may have some nerve damage! Hopefully though, it is just a very bad bruise.

| OUCH! You probably just bruised/sprained it a bit. If it's not better in a day or so, definitely get it checked out. It could just be an "overuse" injury, though. I've done that myself, trying to paint my whole house for days on end, just grasping the roller. I can imagine that the impact from the shovel hitting that cement, YIPES Hope it's better!

| I think you are smart by staying out of the ER. Maybe your doctor can work you in someway but I would go and definetly have x-rays. Things like that can seem to get alittle better with time and show up later with some real problems. Better safe than sorry. |

| It's still pretty bad today. I havent gone in though because I had someone coming from across state to pick up a horse. They just left, but I have a ton of stuff to do this today yet. I hate going to the doctor, especially when I have a million other things to do!

| Bless your heart! You really need to get it checked out. I'm exactly the same way .... think I can "work" through anything! Sometimes it takes lots longer to heal if you ignore something! Take care of yourself. I will be praying for you.

| You must have really bruised it bad. I would certainly have the doc check it out. Hey, your important too. The palm of the hand is sensitive to pressure and can bruise easily. Keep it iced today but if it's not better soon get to the doc. |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I say got to Urgent Care, sometimes things look worse than they are and sometimes they don't look bad and are serious. Injury can be tricky.

| You'd be surprised how easily it is to break your wrist! It wouldn't surprise me if it was fractured. I have tendenitis really bad in my wrist and my elbows.... well my wrist was sooo bad one time I thought it must be broken so I went to the docs, they thought so too so off to xrays I went. I was shocked to see all the little itty bitty bones in my wrist and how hard it was for the doctors to really read the xray to make sure there was no break or fracture. I'd get it checked out if I were you. It could just be bruised also but better safe than sorry!
