| What is an IP relay call? I've had 2 of these calls in the last couple of weeks. There is an operator on the other end with a foreign accent and she gives me her operator number...tells me she has an IP relay call and asks if I am familiar with this type of call. I tell her I don't want anything to do with it unless she can tell me who is calling and she just says please wait for the caller to begin...so I hang up. What the heck is that? |

| I looked it up and this is what I found: "IP Relay allows people who have difficulty hearing or speaking to communicate through the telephone system with hearing persons. IP Relay is accessed using a computer and the Internet, rather than a TTY and a telephone. So individuals who use IP Relay do not need to invest in a TTY; they simply use the computer to communicate by text. When conversing over IP Relay, people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have difficulty speaking can participate in a conference call or go online while holding a conversation." Sorry I can't be of more help.

| Thank you...I've heard of scams being run on people using this type of call when they have puppies listed for sale but I wasn't sure what it was. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | You are wise to be suspicious if they won't give you the name of the person calling; there are a lot of Nigerian scams going on with the IP relay call. Scammers Using Internet Phone Service For The Deaf - O'Reilly Digital Media Blog If you have listed puppies for sale, there are many scams other than this. Another one is where they send you a money order worth more than the dog, and ask you to pay the half back. The money order is worthless, but your bank may take several months to find this out.

| Oh yah...I learned about the money order one a long time ago! These people have been at that one for years. I just wasn't too sure about the IP phone call thing but I knew enough to be suspicious...my husband told me he has hung up on a couple of them too so it must be for the puppies. Quote:

| My brother used to work for AT&T and he was a relay call operator. They make the phone call on behalf of someone who is deaf. The deaf person types the info and then the operator reads it to you. Maybe there are scams too but do you know anyone who is deaf? |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | From what I've read, you can ask where the calls originate, if it's from the states it's probably legitimate, none of the calls outside the states are legitimate.
