Bitter Sweet feelings

I received an email from an old friend, with before and after pictures of my elementary school,and of course, felt I had to share them with you all, was a bitter sweet feeling, since I haven't gone back in 30 years.
1- Thomas A.Edison before been nationalized on 1961
2- now...
I received some others pictures she sent, but everything looks so sad and rundown that did not want to post them.

Oh wow, big difference- that is sad. I know how you feel. I was playing with google curbside yesterday and looked up my grandparent's old house. It was a really pretty house and I had so many good memories of it. I was shocked! It looked so old and rundown and even smaller somehow. I always thought their yard could be in Southern Living and it hadn't been maintained at all. It made me wish I hadn't looked for it.

Wow.. those pics don't even look real with how bad it looks. That is REALLY sad! I do wonder why we don't take more pride in our buildings and structures and why people think they have the right to ruin things and then complain how high their taxes are or how run down everything looks. Geeezzzz stop defacing it! I'd be bummed to see that too... it looked like a really pretty place once!

They don't pay taxes, sadly, buildings,hospitals, private own business and everything else,were little by little nationalized by the government.Just like Nikki said, the memories I had were so nice, that made me cry when I saw these pictures, my kids could not believe I had gone to that school.
This is a house half of block away from our house, we use to play in their back yard, they had a lot of mango trees,the family that owned the house, left the country and this once beautiful house is now used for government cultural affairs, ...I have many more pictures and all of them with a story, but I wanted you to see the architecture details, not even the shadow of what it once was.

I am sorry I didn't realize it was in another country. That is really sad that it got so run down and your childhood memories are now so bittersweet!

Do I really do that? I've never noticed! I am lucky enough in that I do travel some though.
