| Lots of questions, maybe a two-parter! lol My yorkie Sophie is a little over a year old, got her when she was just 8wks old. We've always had rottweilers so this is our first little dog and I love her!! First question: she's basically been itching and scratching since we've had her, had her at the vets several times, combed her for fleas and whatnot, couldn't find anything wrong, so then we started on reviewing her diet..They put her on "science diet" food which she wouldn't eat at all, she's always been really picky about her food, finally after trying so many different kinds, we found royal canine yorkshire 28 which she loves as long as it's mixed with a little bit a "little cesar's beef flavor wet food. But as I was reading post on here earlier, the royal canine contains wheat that's not good for her, any suggestions? I do shampoo/condition her once a week and the vet said she's lacking luster in her coat, she goes to the groomers every 6wks as well. They also weighed her a few weeks ago at 7.5 lbs and my vet said she would like it if Sophie DID NOT gain anymore weight. I think she looks very healthy. Could it be the little cesars causing her to itch? |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Royal Canine made my Reese itch. Switching the food to a non grain formula food solved the itching.

| Thanks BCHGIRL! See that's what's so confusing, every food we've tried her with she's itched, what kind of food do you have your dog on? Maybe I'll try that one |

| Also remember it can take up to three months for the immune system to calm down and the itching to subside. I would pick a good, grain-free food with a novel protein source and stick with it for at least two months. You might gets lots of more info if you post this in the "Health and Diet" section.

| When we rescued our Sasha, she had horrible itchy skin. Once we put her on Nature's Variety, her skin improved drastically! Also, using a good shampoo and conditioner with her helped.

| I think I would try giving her home cooked food, mainly chicken and rice and vegetables. And give it to her for a couple of months, As somone else posted it can take a wile to get whatever is bothering her out of her system. If that does the trick, then pick one food and try switching her. If she starts itching again, stop that food and wait a few weeks before trying a different one. A lot of people do home cooking for them, you can make a huge batch of chicken rice stew and freeze it in small containers. |

| I have a Pommie who is allergic to wheat, corn, and eggs. (Found this out by process of elimination....no expensive tests.) Tried Canidae, California Natural, Taste of the Wild........and all cause loose stools. Finally after 1.5 yrs. I came across Wellness Simple Food Solutions. Now he has nice small solid stools. Good luck.
