I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Unconditional love Vent!!!! God was sitting around one day, thinking about all the struggles that humans go through, and thought, I would really like to give them a little piece of myself. A piece of myself that accepts and loves them for exactly who they are, and whatever they look like, and however they behave. I want them to experience a little bit of the unconditional love I have for them. So he pinched off a little of his essence and sent us a gift, and we all call that essence A Dog! The devil didn't want to be upstaged, so he did the same thing meow I hope nobody gets mad about the cat part, I was joking. I just was sitting around thinking how thankful I am for Joey, and how much God must really love us to have allowed humans to have these wonderful little creatures that we can "create" in so many wonderful ways. When I think of a dog like Joey living in a puppy mill, it just makes me crazy, and I think so many of us could do something about the puppy mill situation, but we just don't want to be inconvenienced. Pet purchasers find it more convenient to go to a pet store or website to purchase a dog, even though they realize, that the parents of these dogs are living in horrendous conditions. Or they want to buy a dog from what's looks like a home breeder, who seems really nice, but who really is a broker, and purchased the dog from puppy mill for resale, but the buyer doesn't want to be bothered to check out her story by calling her vet, that's too inconvenient. Good breeders often refuse to support great legislation that would seriously cut down on the puppy mill problem, but they are afraid it might cause them some personal inconvenience. Many others simply don't want to support legislation in their state, because a phone call or letter is inconvenient. Some members don't take the time to educate others, on the puppy mill problem, because that too is inconvenient. Next time you look at your dog, think of him in a cage, living in a puppy mill, and perhaps you will be more willing to be a little inconvenienced in order to save that little bit of God's essence, and unconditional love, in the embodiment of a doG. If you haven't already joined, sign up for YAP, yorkies against puppy mills. It would great if more of our breeders would join! It's just a little inconvenient to sign up. Join YAP Here!

| Great post Nancy- I look at Layla many times a day and think of those poor poor dogs who don't know what it is to lead a good life- who are stuck in crates all day- who don't get to go for walks. We have stopped buying Layla outlandish birthday and Christmas gifts and instead we donate to rescues. We aren't in the position to take in a rescue ourselves but want to help those that do. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | We would love to have you, I think it's so important to have imput from good breeders! We are looking for ways to help solve the problem without hurting small breeders, especially the good ones!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Love this post, Nancy. Dogs truly are the most loving, unconditional creatures on our planet. They are so precious. When I see Mill videos...well...I just can't begin to express the emotions I feel - my entire spirit just plummets when I consider the cruelty some "humans" inflict upon innocent, loving creatures. It makes me ashamed to be considered an "evolved" being, when some of our fellow humans behave like barbarians. I hope everyone does *something* to stop puppy mills - whether it's spreading the word, donating money to charity, supporting legislation, or refusing to buy anything from stores who sell these poor babies.

| Great post Nancy! I can't think of my babies in a puppy mill...too heartbreaking. It's shocking to me when someone I'll be conversating w/ has NO IDEA about puppy mills!!? We really do need to spread the word...do something.

| This surprises me, too. How can you know what is going on in the news and miss what mills are about? I lady I work with just bought a Chi for her mother from a farm supply store. She knows that these doggies are from mills but yet she purchased it for her mother. As she was telling me this I just shook my head and told her that she knew better. Her reply was that she knew but her mother was so in love with the little Chi. It is so frustrating when someone has the knowledge but chooses to ignore it for their own immediate gratification.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Having recently started to volunteer at a rescue and a no kill shelter it is so heartbreaking to see these sad animals that were at one time someone's pet just dumped off or left on the street. So besides puppymills something needs to be done with all the irresponsible people who think it is ok to not fix their "pets", purebred or not and add to the horrible overpopulation of dogs. Breeding should be left to the people breeding for the betterment of the breed. I don't know what the solution is but I sure have seen the problem in the shelter.

| People should be educated somehow about impulse buying at pet stores and dumping dogs because the novelty wore off.

Thor's Human Donating Member | Does PetSmart still set dogs? What about organizing a boycott of PetSmart until they stop?

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | I don't believe that petsmart sells dogs. They have adoption days in which local shelters will bring their dogs to find them homes, though. This is a fabulous post Nancy!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I don't know what their national policy is, from what I understand they don't sell pets anymore. A few months back I saw some kennels in the local Petsmart with some adorable dogs in them. I was furious. I went over to the poor sales clerk, and said I thought it was against your policy to sell dogs in the store, and she said, "oh we're just doing this for the local rescue." I felt so stupid, but I'm use to it.
