I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | No Solicitors! Don't people know what these words mean? These words are on a sign on my door, and I constantly get people who ring my door, and say, "I'm not selling anything." The sign doesn't say, "No Salesman," it says "No Solicitors", and isn't a solicitor anyone who is soliciting your time? It especially bothers me when religious people do this, I think they are being extremely deceptive when they say they don't know what the word means, and as missionaries, I believe that they should set a good example of what their particular religion is all about, but when they start off by acting like they don't know the word, and it doesn't apply to them, I feel like they are being deceptive and disrespectful to other people's wishes. I really feel like it's important to respect others, if you want to share you personal beliefs about God. Maybe this bothers me more because Joey goes off on a tangent every time the door bell rings, but I want to know what other's think, if you see the words, "No Solicitors" do you think it includes those who are missionaries? By the way, this isn't meant to be a religious thread, I really want to just know how people define the term solicitor.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | By and large I think it's interpreted to mean no soliciting money...not time. I don't answer the door at my house and I have four who go off on a tangent when that bell rings.

| Door to door people get on my nerves big time! Especially the Kirby Vacuume people. They come at least every other week. I keep telling them, "I didn't want one two weeks ago when you came, I didn't want one the times before that and I don't want one now." I told one chick I was about to put down hardwoods and she started trying to tell me how the product would be perfect, blah blah blah. I asked her, "Do you honestly think you are going to convince me to buy a $1500 vaccume for hardwoods!?" Seriously!? The only exception is the Swan guy we buy some food from because he deliveres yummy ice cream to my door! |

| That reminds me of something that happened last year. A kirby salesman was DROPPED OFF in my driveway, and I live in the country I told my husband NOT TO LET HIM IN, under any circumstances. So he walks outside, and walks back in, looks at me and rolls his eyes, and the guy followed him in. They are so manipulative. I told him we are buying NOTHING, and I had to leave in a half hour. I made dinner in the kitchen while he showed my husband the stupid vacuum. I fed the kids dinner at the table and every time he would ask me something, I would just answer him "I don't want anything". I was so rude, but it was very rude of him to barge in and get dropped off! I told him he had to leave because I had to leave, and he didnt!! In fact, he was there for nearly an hour and a half, and I was so mad!! His boss got here to pick him up, walked in my house, and told my husband that he was a bad father if he didn't buy a vacuum because he was letting our kids live in "these conditions" referring to the small amount of dirt he picked up in our brand new carpet. I was so mad, I called my cousin and complained loudly about how rude those people are that are in my house. His boss then offered to trade me 2 of my dogs for a vacuum!!! I told them they HAVE to leave. It took them nearly 15 min to pack up there stuff and go. They did everything short of offering to trade one of my kids. I was livid for days. That moron even came into my bedroom and vacuumed my bed and got NOTHING out of it at all because I have a memory foam topper, lol, even though he told me that it wouldnt matter that it was on it because it goes "13 inches below the 4 inch topper to get stuff in the lower mattress". A couple of weeks later the same people showed up to my friends house and did the same thing after she told them to leave. I think that should be illegal and Kirby needs to be stopped. I understand people need to make a living, but these people are ten times worse than the shadiest used car salesman.

| I have a No SOLICITORS sign on my door too. I don't want anyone coming to my door. My 5 girls lose their minds barking and it usually means a trip downstairs just to see who it is. I don't answer the door but just wave them away if i look through the window. I couldn't hear anything they had to say anyway with the kennel noises! LOL! I personally don't think it is safe to answer the door any more. I still get the flyers on the door but the sign has really cut down on the door to door sellers. We have a law in our community about solicitors so if i see someone going door to door (other than religious and kids) i call and turn them in. They are supposed to have permits to solicit but most don't bother. I have a feeling with the economy tanking, that the sellers may start increasing. I shop online as much as possible so i don't need anything anyone is selling at my front door. |

| Last year we collected pop cans with our 4-H group, and anywhere there was a community with a sign up about solicitors, we wouldn't go there. It's just common sense. I know it might not be so bad since we were a 4-H group and we weren't selling anything, but we didn't want to risk upsetting people.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Do you have a sign? It's just that I can't believe that they have never heard the word used that way.

| Such a good idea to put up a "No Soliciting" sign. I have the UEP (Universal Energy Program) guyS coming to knock on my door really rude and loud eventhough I have a doorbell every single week. They wouldn't take no for an answer. I googled them they are full of fraud and had just been fined. They keep trying to sell me a 5-years contract that saves your gas and hyrdo bill because they give you a frozen rate, a very high one though. What they'd do is get you to show them your bill to get your account number, and then ask you to fill up their so called application form but you are not obligated to use their service until they call and you have to say yes but what they'd do is get your bill, and fill up the form for you, some even copy your signature and then call you and ask you to confirm your address so you'd say yes and they'd save that "yes" word that you said and made it into yes, you want their service. Their catch is, you have to pay them hundreds of dollars some even thousands of dollars to cancel their ridiculous bill if you want out before the 5 years contract and people who accidentaly signed up with them always wants out because their gas and hydro bill is more expensive and up the roof! I am not opening the door the next time round!

| oh my gosh.... before the election I must have had 5 Obama campaign people at my door everyday! My dogs would go ballistic. I always had some sort of literature on my doorstep every single day I came home, sometimes more than 1. It was sooo annoying!
