Glad you got your money back. I had something similar happen the other day when I paid for a lunch with a $20 bill. The cashier gave me change for a $10 and the minute I called her on it, she whipped out another $10 which led me to conclude she did this on purpose. Glad I was paying attention!

His drawer will not come up over as he knows what he owes you and you can't really prove it unless it's on camera. So he will pocket the extra cash at the end of his shift, the drawer will come up right and that will be the end of it. I'd call the area manager for that store now and report it and that you were told no manager was on site at the time. Give day,time employee's name, etc. Good luck.

That's actually really good advice. I got a receipt which had everything on it, and the date and time. I just wrote down the guys name. I called customer service number that's on their website and that is exactly what they asked me for! The receipt had most of the critical information gas station #, address, etc.
Apparently, the number I called is for the parent company of the 76 gas station, Conoco Phillips. They wrote me an appology letter in which they appologized for what happened and said that they really have no control on how the gas station is run. But, they have gotten in contact with the correct people and the station will be "counselled" on how to interact with customers.
Good learning experience for me, I'm usually to shy to speak up in these kinds of situations. At least now I know that it's ok to speak up.
