Every dog owner should see this. Breed Specific Legislation should be Banned.

There definatly needs to be some rules on who owns them. Because in the wrong hands, any dog can be dangerous. And if you have a doangerous dog that is a pittbull. The whole breed takes a hit if something were to happen.


There was a beautiful pitt in my communnity. And she was fearful aggressive. Her owners didnt train her and she was very unstable. Eventually she was very fearful of everything. And even if you were walking by, she would get scared. And that would cause her to be aggressive. Once taken away by her owners,and a new family was found, a dog that i couldnt go witthin 10 feet of, was crawling all over my laps trying to get kisses. Its obviously not the dogs fault but the owners.

I just read recently where one state(maybe Florida) had banned sales of pit bulls. Now, sure, they can be a nice dog, but, they can also turn in a heart beat. There was a little girl killed here a few years back, the g-parents had 2 pit bulls that were the "nicest" dogs you would ever want to be around, they were raised with this grandbaby, well, one day, the little girl and the 2 pits were outside playing, the next thing the 2 pitt bulls had mauled the little girl to death. This has happened more than once with pit bulls. Of course, after that, the pit bulls were put down, and now those 2 g-parents have to live with this the rest of their lives

I *love* pitbulls. I always have. They are beautiful dogs. I've only met a few. I spent the whole time on the floor with him, as did my 6 year old second cousin. Papi was the perfect gentleman with my cousin, and he was the sweetest big guy with me. He spent the majority of the time sitting in my lap rubbing his head against my hand.

There ARE good pitbulls out there. there are *more* good pitts than there are bad. The news has corrupted the view of pitbulls. Just because they are Pits does not mean they are bad dogs and it does NOT mean they deserve to be killed.

People on here get so offended - and rightly so - when someone refers to our yorkies as "ankle biters" "yappers" "rats" and so on. But we can then turn around and say that someone else's baby deserves to be KILLED and they should ALL be outlawed? I don't *think* so! These dogs are peoples' "children" "babies" "furkids" - they love their dogs JUST as much as we love ours. One innocent dog's life is not more important than other's.

ANY dog whatever its breed or size can 'turn in a heartbeat'..children should NEVER be left unsupervised with ANY dog..especially the larger more powerful breeds..my MIL's small sized collie/cross breed turned on my toddler son years ago..just because he walked past her while she was eating..she left teeth marks down his face..we have had a large and powerful Staffordshire Bull Terrier in our family for the last 9 years..and he has not so much as even growled at my son.

Very well put. I think that is something that most people tend to forget. A dog, is a dog, is a dog, which is an animal that was once wild. Nomatter if its 2 lbs, or 200 lbs, They can still turn on anybody.

I was watching "Dogtown" On national geograpic chnnel last night. And they rescued 22 of vicks fighting dogs. And each and every one of them were PERFECT with humans. These dogs are bred to fight other dogs and animals. I can see why some are agressive with animals. It is what they were originally bred for. A yorkie was bred as a ratter. And they have a High Prey drive, but we dont blame them for it. Pitts are very good with humans. They werent bred to be mean to humans. Accually, the ones that were good with the family, were the ones that were bred when the breed was used for fighting off animals. Because the dogs were still house pets.


Anyways. Although vicks dogs were used to fight till the death, two of them (1 of which was used as a bait dog) Became the best of friends and loved to play, although before they had to kill eachother for survival!

And was FORCED to breed with other dogsby being strapped down to a "dog rape" Contraption because her pups could be sold for up to 10 000 dollars on the black market. And her teeth were pulled put, by a PROFESSIONAL vet (Yes, a proffesional vet that cared more about money then the animal) so that she couldnt hurt the male dogs that were mating with her. And people would blame her if she hurt another animal?? She has not yet learned to except other dogs. But i suspect she will. How messed up is this world?

The rescue I volunteer with ended up with one of his breeding dogs and she was so sweet... very shy though. A person would come up to her and she would wag her tail really slowly and it was still hung. If another dog approached her though, she would let out a small growl. She just didn't want to be bothered. Total sweetheart though.

As has already been said Pit Bulls have been illegal here in the UK for years, yet every time I walk down the street I see them. I have nothing against the breed -I love all dogs, banning them has had the worst effect on the breed possible, because now they are a status symbol for idiots!!! When the wrong kind of people are the only ones breeding,training and owning these powerful animals then of course the breed will go downhillIts such a shame Years ago before Pits were banned a friend of mine used to breed them. When the legalization first came in only aggressive Pits were PTS and it became illegal to breed them-they all had to be neutered and muzzled whenever in public (even in your own car/yard) Many staff crosses were accused of being Pits and were forced to live the same way or be PTS For years I never seen any Pits but now they are being advertized for sale, some refer to them as Irish Staffs and this is having a very negative effect on "real" staffs. Every time there is an incident/attack involving Pit Bulls the media refer to them as "staff type" dogs! We own a Staff and were recently told we could'nt bring her camping with us because they don't allow "those" types of dangerous dogs Nikki is the sweetest dog you could ever imagine and has never even so much as growled at any one EVER I have never personally come across a "bad" True Staffordhire Bull Terrier and 90% of my friends and family own them, they are a very popular breed in the Northwest of England, possibly because thats were they originally came from and partly because they too are becoming a status symbol which is very sadWe originally bought a staff because we researched them and were recommended by friends that they were great with kids! Our staff is our baby, we don't encourage her to bark/growl (infact she is a very quiet dog), we don't use a macho leather harness and encourage her to pull and we try wherever possible to promote this breed as a supurb family friendly pet! They are rubbish guard dogs and would welcome any intruders into your home as if they were long lost friends My kids can take the food out of Nikki's mouth, climb into bed with her and my youngest can sit on her back and she is always pleased with the attention! I call her "The worlds fattest LAP DOG"LOL! (DISCLAIMER: I ALWAYS supervise my kids around the dogs even though I trust my dogs, kids are far more unpredictable!!!) I'm really scared that Staffs will eventually go the same way as the Pits and be branded as "EVIL" and IMO all of this has come about because Pit Bulls were BANNED! Even the Kennel Club and the RSPCA have been quoted as saying that banning the breed was the wrong way to go.

Poptickle- Alot of staffs and staff mixes have been pts in ontario (I have a friend that works in several different rescues up there) Because they looked like pitts. Its awful. Like it says in the grapic, BSL effects all dog owners. If the staffy is banned, what next? The shepherds? The yorkies?

Please don't take offense at my use of your statement but it's absolutely the idea that is being sold here. And it contradicts itself.

Second part "Because in the wrong hands, any dog can be dangerous." This is so true that it negates the first statement.

What we need is personal accountability. Own the dog you like, and be prepared to be held accountable when the dog harms someone. Up to and including financial restitution and possible jail time. We can't legislate bad things out of life, but we can make examples out of those who exercise significant lack of good judgement.

I said their needs to be rule on who owns this breed, because if somebody gets a Pittbull, and they dont teach it right, and it hurts somebody. The breed as a whole will take a HUGE hit. So for the sake of the breed, there should be rules for this breed, it would be better then having them banned.

I agree, that is so sad, I don't agree with Pitbull banning or any dog breed. I just think it is the owner's fault if the Pitbull goes crazy and ive seen proof. pitbull owners are prob. so worried thinking their family pet will be taken away, that is so sad and not right!
