Ok, I'd like to start off with: I love my aunt and uncle DEARLY. I would NEVER ever say anything to hurt their feelings. But, right now I have to vent to someone that won't tell them what Im saying and feeling.

Here's the story:

On Thanksgiving, my aunt and uncle planned that the day after Christmas we would go and watch the movie Marley & Me. It was the day after it came out, so I was ok with that. I was excited to go see a movie that I really wanted to see with them. Well, something "came up" and they couldn't go...

That's ok, we'll plan for another day, right? So, we plan for a couple weekends later. No big deal, I can wait a little longer. Comes time to go see the movie, and guess what. They're sick! Ok, I can't be around people when they're sick due to my disease. They can't help it that they got sick. And they just don't want to get me sick, too. I understand. I little disappointed, but I understand. Now, today, we planned that we would go see it at 4:25 this evening and then go out to dinner. Great! I'm excited! Well, wouldn't you know it, something happens. My brother has been having some bad bloody noses that past few days and got one at school. The school nurse called my mom while we were already on our way to school to pick him up. The nurse said we just HAD to go to the hospital and have it taken care of. So, needless to say, I called my uncle and cancelled the movie night. AGAIN.

We got his nose to stop bleeding, and came home. My brother said he'd be fine if we went to the movie. By now it was too late to go to the 4:25 one, but we could still make the 7:00 one. Ok, there's still hope.

So, we call my uncle, again, and tell him the situation. He says no. They don't want to take my brother if his nose is going to start bleeding half-way through the movie. Ok, fine. I'll wait yet again. We decided on Monday during the day. Me and my brother both have off of school, and my aunt and uncle don't have to work that day. Yay!

Just a few more days of waiting! Well, he called back a few minutes later. They can't go on Monday... So, it's next weekend. But, the thing that gets me is, he can't go this weekend because: 1) He has to go to her nephew's swim meet (boring, and they ALWAYS go to her family's stuff), and 2) They have plans to go to the movies with her son and his fiancee. Why can they go to the movies with THEM, but not ME???

We've had this planned for months! They come along and within a few days they're all going to the movies!! I'm having a tough decision now... My other aunt and her daughter are going to see the movie on Monday. Again, she doesn't work, and her daughter doesn't have school. I can either go with them on Monday, wait until next weekend and *hope* that my aunt and uncle don't cancel AGAIN, or go on Sunday with my mom, dad, and brother.

What should I do????

This is such a hard decision for me. Like I said, I love them dearly, but I just don't know if we're EVER going to get to see the movie before it comes out on DVD.

Sorry it's so long, but it feels good to get that out.

Especially since I didn't have to let it out on them.

Ugg, I'd be really frustrated too! Would your Aunt and Uncle be really upset if you went with your other Aunt? If it wouldn't cause a huge problem that's what I would do.

Sorry about your brother- hope everything is okay.

Why don't you go see "Marley and Me" with your Mom and brother, and next week go see "Hotel for Dogs" with your Aunt and Uncle?

I would just go with the other Aunt & if the first ones ever become free you can see another movie with them.

I'd go with someone else for sure, then maybe they would understand how you feel.

Girl.....go see it before you miss it in theaters! If they become available then maybe y'all can catch another film.

oh my gosh Courtney I can CERTAINLY see how that would be VERY frustrating!

It would drive me nuts!

I would call them up and just let them know that if they can't go this weekend, you're gonna go see it with someone else, cause you really don't want to miss it in theaters and you've been wanting to see it for so long. it's polite and it's the truth! and if they still can't go, then go see it and tell them that you'd love to see something else with them when they're free.

I would definately go ahead and see the movie. You can always see another movie, or do something else with your Uncle, or who knows, you may like the movie so much you'll want to see it twice!

You poor thing. It makes me sad to see the sacrifices you have to make because of your illness. Then when other things come up to get in the way, it's just compounds the problem.

I think you should go with whoever can take you first. Everyone will understand. You don't get opportunities like this every day, and when they fall through it hits you a lot harder than it might hit other people.

You're right to feel disappointed. Try not to hold it against your aunt and uncle. It sounds like they don't quite understand. Maybe you can find a polite way to tell them ...

uhhh ya thats a little weird! especially if they dont realize what they are doing or are even sorry! go with ppl that want to be with you
you dont wanna go if you feel like you are making them which is sad i mean they are family!
all families are disfunctional tho i know mine is!

I talked with my mom. What we're going to do is go to the movie with my aunt and her daughter on Monday. We're going to tell them on Sunday. They will be THRILLED! We're not going to tell my aunt and uncle until next week about our decision, though. And then, we're going to do it gently. If that makes sense...? My cousin and I both really want to see the movie. We were actually ALL supposed to go together, but things changed where we would have to go in two groups. Now it looks like the groups have changed, though!
