I Love My Babies Donating Member | Swiffer Wet Jet? May be harmful. I just opened the following. It was sent to me by a friend. I do not know if it has been checked out or not.. but I felt it should be. Just in case. And I do not know how to do that. Here it is..... SEPTEMBER17, 2008 I found this interesting and wanted to pass it along.http://us.mg2.mail.yahoo.com/ya/down...Inbox&inline=1 Recently someone had to have their 5-year old German Shepherd dog put down due to liver failure. The dog was completely healthy until a few weeks ago, so they had a necropsy done to see what the cause was. The liver levels were unbelievable, as if the dog had ingested poison of some kind. The dog is kept inside, and when he'soutside, someone's with him, so the idea of him getting into something unknown was hard to believe. My neighbor started going through all the items in the house. When he got to the Swiffer Wetjet, he noticed, in very tiny print, a warning which stated 'may be harmful to small children and animals.' He called the company to ask what the contents of the cleaning agent are and was astounded to find out that antifreeze is one of the ingredients (actually, he was told it's a compound which is one molecule away from antifreeze). Therefore , just by the dog walking on the floor cleaned with the solution, then licking its own paws, it ingested enough of the solution to destroy its liver. Soon after his dog's death, his housekeepers' two cats also died of liver failure. They both used the Swiffer Wetjet for quick cleanups on their floors. Necropsies weren't done on the cats, so they couldn't file a lawsuit, but he asked that we spread the word to as many people as possible so they don't lose their animals. This is equally harmful to babies and small children that play on the floor a lot and put their fingers in their mouths a lot. PLEASE, EVEN IF YOU DO NOT HAVE BABIES, SMALL CHILDREN OR OWN A PET; PLEASE FORWARD THIS ON! YOU MAY NOT HAVE ANY CHILDREN OR PETS, BUT SOME OF YOU HAVE FRIENDS OR FAMILY WITH PETS AND ALSO FAMILIES WITH GRANDCHILDREN AND GREAT GRANDCHILDREN. Ms. KT http://us.mg2.mail.yahoo.com/ya/down...Inbox&inline=1 Psalm 91

| My sisters dog died... My sister lost her 2 year old Greyhound mix to liver failure. This happened about 4 years ago! She was sick for about a month. The Vet finally asked if she used their Mop and Jessie did every other day to wash the kitchen floor. She had to have Lovey put to sleep. She could'nt eat or drink. She was a wonderful young dog and we all miss her dearly!! She had gotten her from a shelter. Her boyfriend went back and got her a Cockapoo mix. Jessie wrote to the company about Lovey but she never heard back... I stopped using their products to clean and so did she!! I use the new Green Products that are on the shelves...Be careful what you use to clean around your pets!! Sincerely, Baron's Mom

| I heard that too but I really really like my swiffer. I refilled the bottle with water with some vinegar. It works just fine on my linoleum and hardwood. If you twist the cap with some pliers it will "snap' something and you will be able to open and close it at will.

I Love My Babies Donating Member | I bought a couple of years ago but I didn't like the film it left on the floor. So I didn't use it again... but I still had it... until I read this. Then it went into the trash. I just can't see taking that kind of chance. Thanks for all of the different comments above. I am sorry for the animals that were lost. That is so sad. Hopefully it will never happen again.

| Ladies, please read the second entry, the snopes.com one. This is not true at all. The mop is perfectly safe to use. It's even got a rebuttal from the ASPCA saying that it's perfectly safe. The only warning that they gave was to let the floor dry completely - because wet floors are slippery, not toxic. |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I used to use it but stopped because the cleaner liquid didn't work very well on my floors. There was more accumulation of dirt that if wouldn't have been using any product. But still, after knowing this, I know I won't go back to it for sure! |
