Guess I'm glad I missed it. I saw Phelps swim and went to bed. Tonight I am staying up and of course the rest of it. 10am est (swimming) NBC this morning, I think. |

I saw them beat Cuba yesterday, it was a close one and could have been a loss to their 103 winning streak but they pulled it off and won. They are so great together. |
Oooh! We're loving the Olympics at our house. Of course we're also really loving our DVR too, every night we seem to sit down and watch the previously aired stuff (no way we're making a start time of 2 am!!!). It's also great to fast forward those events that just don't do anything for us. We've been all about the team sports, mostly beach volleyball (since my boyfriend loves!!!!!! it). |

I've been watching the female gymnastics tonight and even the hosts that are talking are saying WTF with the low scores?! for the U.S.A. Iseen so many girls in the Chinese team not stick it,lose their balance and still not get as many deductions?! I forgot which USA girl I think it was Shawn Johnson did a routine ..ugh forgot whichone but she got a really low score like 14.75? Then the chinese girl goes and screws up and has at least 5 deductions that are pointed out and bam! gets a 16.1 ??? I wanted to scream! And... I'm sorry some of those girls look at least 13 yrs old!? They had some competition last year and one of their coaches gave a brief interview saying how proud he was of so and so and saying how good she was for only being 13... and she's here the following year in this year's Olympics? They said all they need to prove age is the passport so everything checked out and they wont investigate any further.... Oooh well ...just had to vent lol Genie |

Actually, they can be 15 and compete, so long as they will be turning 16 by the end of the calendar year. I'm so glad that the US girls took Gold and Silver! The judges tried to give it away to someone else, but I guess they finally realized they couldn't. Honestly, I was close to the point of not really caring who won as long as it wasn't the Chinese. I know that his a horrible thing to say, but the whole age controversy and unfair scoring has me a bit bitter.:mad: I would not be in the least bit shocked if the other teams don't push for an investigation when all is said and done. And I definately suspect they will have stricter requirements for verification of age in the future...one can only hope. |
I saw an article on the Sports Illustrated site. They found a site that had an article that was dated I think last year sometime in Nov. Anyway, in the article the Chinese kept talking about how young she was. They also made the comment that she was ONLY 13! I think the whole thing is BS! The IOC said that they checked the passports and that they were all approved! That is the only document that they check! Safe to say the Chinese would forge any document that they had too. OHHH that article that was found was later taken down. UMMMM wonder why??!! :rolleyes: I was so glad to see our girls finally get the medals they deserved! I also don't think the low scores being given are only happening to our gymnastics team! The divers were also getting low scores! I was holding back tears last night when the girls won Gold and Silver! I thought it was great! |
Ya know, I think that the divers were being scored low too, but I have to say in all honesty, those Chinese divers were GOOD. I don't think anyone could have beaten them in any way...they were IMO clearly in a class of their own. You know, I am not a big crier...OK, I cry for things most people don't and don't cry at things most people do. But when Nastia won last night and turned around and started hugging her dad and he was SO happy for her...well, I got a little Misty-eyed (lol...no pun intended). TY for posting the articles. I'd been meaning to search for some but hadn't gotten around to it. |

I'm paying today for staying up so late, but it was worth it to see our girls do so beautifully and take the gold and silver. I also thought the scores were b.s. I think they should dump this new scoring system and go back to the old one, particularly after what I saw last night. I get the sense, though, that there's going to be enough backlash for the committee to at least look into it and reconsider the new scoring. Will be watching to see what happens! |
I know what you mean, I am dragging!! Someone called me with free tickets for the Indians game tomorrow and I said 'yes' I take care of the kids this afternoon and I'll be tempted to watch the 'Olympics' tonight. When am I ever going to start acting my age. LOL Last night was worth staying up for though. Wop de de!! Gold and Silver. Did you hear them explaining Phelps body last night. I though he just wore his pants low:) but he has no legs. From his neck to his waist is about 3/4 of his body and he wears a size 14 shoe and those feed really help and his hands are like paddels. The perfect body to swim and I have not seen many with a body like that.:eek: |
