Donating YT 500 Club Member | Anyone deal first hand with Asperger's? My oldest was recently diagnosed at the same time he was released from the early childhood program in our school district. He's in speech and OT twice a week this summer and will start a mainstream Kindergarten this August. I'm really worrying. He's not doing that great this summer and his repetitiveness is increasing. He's not listening well and he's not making eyecontact like he did. I know youngsters go through bouts of asking questions, but is it usually the SAME 5-6 phrases over and over again? Like exactly? I will ask him what I told him and he'll tell me what I said but then a moment later he's asking me the same questions. I get conflicting ideas on how to handle it. 1. Refusing to answer and saying, we talked about this, no more now. Or 2. Keep reassuring him and answering them. The same 5-6 questions constantly the last two days and I'm at a loss

Here's a thread by Jrsgal37: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/con...proud-mom.html Here's also a thread by Gizmo's Mom: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/off...cal-paper.html She has more but I thought this might introduce you to her.

| I'm a speech pathologist...the repetition and poor eye contact is very common. Are they using techniques during therapy that they could provide for you to carryover at home? I work closely with an occupational therapist and we use lots of sensory based techniques with our kids (weighted vests, joint compressions). I also use lots of social stories and picture symbols. All of these things could be used at home, too. Good luck!!! |

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | My cousin Shawn is 12 and he has Asperger's. He does have certain questions that he asks over and over - like if we're in the car he'll say "How many miles left?" over and over again. He also has things he obsesses over - things like Disney and ceiling fans. I don't know what to tell you, but I'm sending you hugs and I wish you best of luck with everything.

My son is obsessed with Thomas the Tank Engine. He flips out when one needs a new battery, or if the eyebrow rubs off, etc. He reads EVERYTHING so I'm trying to keep him busy with that. Today he was really upset because the television station was messing up and it ruined his time to watch his show. He was convinced the television was broken and wanted a new one. I'm trying to figure out what his triggers are. Bedtime is the WORST time of day here. It's so stressful! It doesn't matter how I tweak it or prepare, or how tired he is, he will wind right back up in bed and it takes forever for him to calm down and settle. Thanks for all the feedback, sometimes I just need to vent, I guess.
