I watched a documentary on them last year. It focused more on the people that bought them that the making of them. Some of them were being custom made to look like babys that had passed away and stuff.

I found the person that said it, they posted about in on the weird talent thread. I'd be interested to see her work.

When i first saw some of these babies that is what I thought. I thought "this baby is being made to look like a baby that has died probably".. i mean, some of the postions they are in.. i dont know, it is sad to me do you remember the name of the documentary? id love to watch it. maybe it is on netflix

I have never seen these before, but researching them, I get the same feeling about them as I get about those fake women that men pay thousands of dollars for. I guess there are some avid doll collectors that would love them, but I just get sad when I see them and think of the people that are purchasing them because of an emptiness inside themselves

I dont think I would want a doll to look like a child of mine that passed away. Doesnt seem like something that would help you heal, but rather hurt more everytime you looked at it since it cannot replace the child or respond to you in any way. Seems like it might even be harmful mentally in a way.

Mercy! What an awful thought!!

I am not an 'avid' collector. I simply like dolls. I made one porcelain doll many years agao and still have her. I love Lee Middleton dolls. I have a few cloth dolls that I designed and made. One large Uncle Sam doll. So, I think these reborns are simply precious, but then, I love babies so much. All babies. Human and animal.

But....making a baby to look like one that has passed on causes me to feel distressed. Much like those that would have their pet done at a taxidermist. The thought makes me ill.

Edited to add:

I don't consider these types of dolls to be anything at all like the dolls that men buy. That is something entirely different. The purpose behind those is certainly what I would consider a perversion of a sexual nature. Nope. Nothing like.

Oh I didnt mean it like a sexual perversion, I meant how they think a doll is going to fill the need for a companion. The thing with the dolls for the men, the men said it went deeper than a sexual need, they actually treated these dolls like they were their real wives! Very odd indeed, and sad. I looked all night last night for this documentary (i guess i got kind of obsessed lol) and it is nowhere to be found on the internet. Not even on torrent sites. Bummer. I really want to see this documentary. I am so intrigued about this treating-a-dollbaby-like-a-real-baby phenomenon.

There are some creepy videos on Youtube of these reborn babies "breathing." One was like, "is this a fake baby or a real baby" video, and you are watching it breathe and the whole time you are so afraid this baby is just gonna all of a sudden move and actually be a real baby!! SCARY!!

I just watched the clip that Gypsy & Me posted, and I don't know what to think! I'm a little disturbed by one of the comments made. A lady said "this is the perfect baby, it doesn't soil itself, it doesn't grow out of its clothes" almost like the dolls are better than real babies. If the dolls were for someone's doll collection no matter their age, that wouldn't be weird at all to me. But to hear the comments made by those women, and the way they carry the dolls and care over them... that creeps me out a bit.
