No Longer a Member | PDA Cell phones...what all can they do? I am PDA challenged. I'm about to get a new cell phone, and I want one that can function as a calendar with reminders. So I was looking into the Blackberry Curve, but I understand it has to have a data package added to it for an additional $30/month. I have currently only used my cell phones for voice and texting. Can someone dumb it down for me? LOL I'd like to know what all the blackberry can do. I understand I can do email on it, and something called "email browsing" whatever the heck that is. I see some people post to forums using their blackberry's and treo's. Is it worth getting and paying an additional $30/month for? thanks! |

| I have the T-Mobile Dash and I really love it. It has a calendar with reminders and it is very easy to use, I use it all the time! I can get on the internet anywhere there is a wireless signal and I can do almost anything that you can do on the internet. I can post to YT from my phone, if I want. This service does not cost any additional per month with T-Mobile. However, if I want to be able to get on the internet through the phone, then i have to add the data service which is about $30 per month. I haven't found the need for that, so I have not added it. I know you can do some office functions, IM, and other things, but I just haven't found the need for those things. I love the qwerty keypad - it's great for texting - which I don't do that much of, but the little I do is very very easy. I love the Dash because it is the smallest and thinnest of the data phones. I carry my cell in my pocket or in a case clipped to my waistband all the time and I don't want anything bulky.

| I would never make it to any appointment if it wasn't for my Palm. You can use the calendar features without that data package. I believe that's just if you want to send email and browse the web. My husband's second wife is his Crackberry - LOL. I am not sure I will ever go back to a regular cell phone after relying on my PDA for so long.

| My old flip phone had a calendar so if that is all you want, you might not need a "smart phone" I love my iPhone.

| I'm confused. If you can still get on the internet, why would one need the data service? Just what is in the data service?

| I have the Blackberry Pearl with internet service. I use it to forward email from my personal email accounts to my Blackberry. As I have a small business, this comes in really handy when I am on the road and someone sends an email of a more urgent nature. I use it to check in at YT when I am on the road and have some down time. I also have an IPAQ PDA that I use for all of my contacts and calendar stuff, and some mobile versions of Word documents. I sync my PDA and my Blackberry to Outlook so both have pretty much the same info. After having a PDA die on me after I forgot to back it up, I appreciate the redundency! Your Blackberry will do pretty much anything a PDA will do. Using some various software programs you can actually create your own ring tones for your Blackberry from any downloaded song. PM me if you want more info.

No Longer a Member | I think she meant that she can pick up the Wifi signals, like at the library or Starbucks to get on the internet, but unless she's in one of those hotspots, she'd need to have the data package which is basically internet service for the phone. |

No Longer a Member | Argg, LOL And I was just about decided I didn't want the Blackberry after all, now you're all making me want it for sure. The clerks in the store were all trying to push the other phones, saying it would be so hard to figure out the BB. I have Verizon, but I'm also considering switching to AT&T. With either of those services, I have to have the data plan to get the Blackberry, and that is $30/month. But today at the Verizon store, the rep was showing their Glyde and Voyager phones which have web browsing capabilities for $15/month. Though the calendar features are pretty limited. |

| No. Surfing on the internet on your cell phone, is different. Unless sites have "mobile" built in, the cell phone may not be able to access them. It all has to do with the formatting. YT is no problem. Hope you enjoy your Blackberry as much as I have!

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Hi Misty I have a Palm Trio and I love, love it. I was PDA challenged but this Palm is very easy to use and I got it mainly for the calendar reminders..hahaha...I was forgetting appointments and this is so easy to use and enter your daily appointments with reminders, etc. I love the touch screen too. I am with Sprint and it only costs me an extra $25 a month and that is with unlimited internet access (which if you don't the $$$ can add up with ringer downloads, etc.). I also have text messenging. Oh and I have a pink one. Only drawback and that's even with the BB (I have one for work as a loaner at one time) are the tiny Qwerty keyboard keys. But you get used to it or you can use the stylus tool that comes with the Palm.

| I have dreams of becoming organized too. I just got the Blackberry Curve 8330 and I have Verizon. I absolutely love it. I have my calendar with appointments, Birthdays and even when to pay my bills I organized it so that it reminds me of upcoming events. I did get the data package and I get to surf the internet and google just like I do from my PC at home. It is very easy. I also love the texting. The only problem I am having is that I just got an Apple PC and I haven't been able to get my phone synchronized with my PC ( it makes managing appointments easier and backing up info. from my phone to the PC. I have to call Apple and see what they can do or call Blackberry). You will love the phone!

| Yay for you ordering a BB! When you get it and eventually get used to it you'll love it! I have mine with AT&T and I have the personal BB data package for an extra $30 per month. I've had the phone for about 3 weeks and wow, it's amazing. For the extra $30 a month I can get on the internet however much I want to, use BlackBerry Messenger which is very handy considering my BF has a BB too and we can message each other at all times and don't have to pay the pesky texting fees (even though we each have 200 msgs a month!). The package also lets us set our e-mail up to our phone so you can receive e-mail anywhere! I'm always on AIM and the BB Messenger! There are also several different applications you can add to the BB (some are free & some you have to pay for). It also has the calendar and you can set your theme so that everything for that day shows up on your main screen. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me, while I'm still learning new things about it everyday, I already know quite a bit about it. You can also go to Crackberry.com (a BlackBerry forum) and download different ringtones, wallpapers and a few free applications for free if you join!
