Need advice from experienced fur baby lovers I need some advice quickly. I have a friend that has two min daschunds, male is eleven months, female is just over two years. Both are registered. Because of the economy, they are going to have to give them away. Also, they think the female is recently pregnant. They offered them both, or either to me if I wanted them. My question is, they have both been backyard dogs all their lives, arent housetrained, and don't know simple commands. They are smart, and healthy. I'm wondering, can a two year old dog who may be pregnant be housetrained? PLease let me hear your opinions quickly, as I'm afraid for the little girls future welfare. Thanks, Ken

It may take some patience on your part but with some positive training methods I see no problem with house training a 2 yeard old.

| I agree, if you are patient with her I'm sure you can do it! My one girl Molly always wanted to hide and pee in the house, then when she got pregnant, she was perfectly house trained, she went outside every time. After she delivered her babies, she went back to her old ways and tried to pee in the house again!! Frustrating!!

Yes, all it takes is time & patience. I rescued my 3rd baby 7 months ago and she was already 2 yrs old. She now has free run of the house since she is 100% pad trained. It did take some time and some take longer than others but it does happen.

Yes, definately. Quite often they learn quicker than puppies do as they have bladder control & are eager to please you. You just need to make sure, in the first few days, that she learns where the"right" place to go is, & be vigilant & put her there till she gets the idea of asking to go out. If you make a HUGE fuss of her when she gets it right she'll quickly get the idea & be eager to please you. xx Meggie
