| Homeowners check your credit report! The other day I found on my front door a Notice of Default in reference to a home loan belonging to some gentleman I have never heard of. Some quick research found that his address had the first two numbers transposed. I called the collection agency. They insisted it was an error on the title company's part. It turns out the guy is a real estate agent and he has this property listed on his web site. I gave her that URL and told her to fix the error. The last thing I want is his crap getting on my credit report, or worse yet, the repo folks showing up and cleaning out my home when I am not here! Just something kind of scary when you think about it. Another reminder to check your credit report every year.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | It's scary....a simple mistake could ruin someone's life. And, trying to clear any errors is sometimes extremely hard to do. Once something is on your report, it takes almost an act of Congress to get it removed. Glad you got the mistake cleared up so quickly!

| Oh this is so bad any more is so serious and yet its not unusual for people to get information and use it in your address and such things. I have even seen where relatives have used ss#'s of people they know or distance down the line family. It does take an act of congress to get that off your report. We all should watch this more and make sure you shred your information that comes in the mail. Don't put this in the trash people go through that and get the information out and use it.

Senior Yorkie Talker | Firm believer in shred and burn. I shred everything then in the winter I burn it in the fireplace. Keeping your cedit protected is a big task, but something that should never be neglected. I also reached out to the credit bureaus where they need to speak to me directly before approving any credit checks. This is an extra step when applying for credit cards etc. but well worth it.

| The entire credit report system needs revised for more reasons than what is listed here. Many times they are inaccurate and too much weight is placed on credit scores. People who pay their bills on time get penalized if their score is low, which can occur by a variety of reasons. Takes a lot to keep the score acceptable and only a moment to ruin it, and it takes what seems like a lifetime to regain an acceptable score again...
