| I'm sorry you have to go thru this, b/c I know EXACTLY how you feel~ I went thru it with my dad a few years ago, and he was in Hawaii and I'm a cardiac nurse ~ I was scared poopless!!! And I hope we don't have to go thru it again, however....at least surgery is in most cases, a permanent fix for his problem. Just try to keep in mind that hundreds of thousands of heart surgeries are done every year (not on YOUR dad of course, which makes your situation unique) and it's become practically routine. I know that doesn't make you feel too much more secure, and once he's out of surgery you'll feel SO MUCH BETTER!!! If you have any questions or just want to chat, PM me. I worked with heart surgery patients for almost 25 yrs, so I'm familiar with almost any situation that might arise. Prayers for you, your dad and your mom that the surgery goes without a hitch and his recovery is smooth sailing!

| Well they did Dad's heart cath yesterday and found a 95% blockage an inch away from one of his other stents, and another blockage in a new area. They put in the medicated stents this time instead of the metal ones like before(so he has both now) The new ones ar supposed to release medication and help prevent blockage....from what I understood....as I wasn't comprehending well due to stress and lack of sleep. The word angiolplasty was used but I just don't understand how it all worked. I need to do some reading up on everything, lol! I don't know if they do the angioplasty to open up the blockage and then place the stent???? or what. I haven't talked to Mom yet today, but as of 11pm last night Dad was doing good and was sandbagged and resting. His enzyme levels are out of whack though, which happened last time too. So I am waiting on another good news update from Mom hopefully here very soon. Once again Thank You to those who have extended your support, prayers, thoughts, well wishes and love to my family in our time of need. I am offering each and every one of you the biggest warmest hugs I can possibly offer. ![]() Thank you YT family. ![]() I will update when I hear more...... |

| Our Daddies are very special to us, aren't they. So glad they were able to place the new stents. Cardiac medicine has come so far. Prayers for your dad to have a speedy recovery and a long healthy life.

| I just wanted to say that I too am a Daddy's girl and I will be keeping your Daddy in my prayers. I also want to offer some encouragement. They have made so many advancements in cardiac medicine that they can do amazing things now. I know because at the age of 43 I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I had/have 3 leaking valves caused by taking phen-fen when I was younger. We know it was caused by the drugs because they did an EKG prior to me taking it, then again afetr and I had no heart issues prior to taking the drug. When I was diagnosed, my ejection fraction (EF) was just 40. Normal is between 55-70. EF is a ratio of the blood that enters the heart as compared to the amount leaving it, so it sort of measures the efficiency of the heart itself. Anything under 50 is considered congestive heart failure. The leaking valves where making my heart work harder than it could handle. Basically 1/4 of my heart was not working. Since being diagnosed, I have been on several heart medications including some brand new drugs which strengthened my heart muscle. My EF is now at the high end of normal (70). I STILL have 3 leaking valves, but my heart muscle has been strengthened enough to overcome the extra strain on my heart from the valves. My cardiologist calls me his poster child. So all is not lost. there are many many advances that can help and there are more being discovered daily. I hope your Dad lives a long healthy life.
