Venue for 2009 Yorkie Meetup

I have to say at this point, this thread is going no where. And I really don't want to see it take a turn for the worst and come down to arguing I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but by now I think everyone or a high majority has expressed them. I believe there is a poll coming any time now. Maybe we should just take a break and wait for it to be posted.

i agree 200%...if we start aruguing then the meetup will be a waste of time
lets all just get along
cant wait to see what was decided so i can figure if i can even come this year

And this was after they knew it would be in KC. There were those saying they were coming right until it was time to pay up even. The people who were all gung ho just disappeared - that's my issue. Because if we knew there would only be 30 or so people there, I'm not sure the event would have happened this year.

But I'm so glad it did, because I had a great time.

And if it is across the country in the future, I'll have to reevaluate this for myself whether I can participate - so I am definitely not judging anyone.

I didn't think you were being rude - Just honest, and I don't think you were singling anyone out. What did happen in the end was very frustrating because at one point Lisa was looking at having to come out of pocket herself (not that we would have let that happen) due to the low turn out.
No matter what you do, where you have it, or what the cost there are going to be people who can't make it for financial and/or other reasons.

Especially about people coming from all over to visit a place they wouldn't normally necessarily visit-I think it would be great to get to a city that many of us haven't been to before, and I think KC was like that for quite a few that attended this year's meetup. When I travel for business and to visit family/friends and vacation, we typically end up in the larger cities like Chicago, Minneapolis, New York, and I've been to San Francisco, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, Tampa and many of the other site suggestions too-I feel like they're more common spots to visit. But somewhere like Austin, Nashville, San Diego, the cities mentioned in CO, etc. would be more of an "adventure" yet would keep cost down because they're still large enough cities, but without the cost of the big cities and doing/seeing the same ol' stuff.

I am excited about it being on one of the coasts, but I would like it to be in a city where everything isn't really expensive and where everyone feels safe.

I agree with this. I would even be ok with an event actually being in a suburb of a city - sometimes the farther you stay out the better rate you can get on a hotel, etc. Or choose a town that is just a bit smaller, rather than Tampa, choose Clearwater or Sarasota where it is easy to get around.

What are some cities that are fairly close to an airport that are reasonable in Calif? or Georgia or somewhere east?

I love lobster and would love to go to Maine too OR I like the idea of piggy backing on the Yorkie Fair in Michigan

Maybe we could divide the country into 4 even parts across the middle and up and down in the middle and have everyone vote for one of those parts and then when we have it narrowed down to a part then we can vote for a state. I feel like if there is a poll with all the states we will end up with a state winning but that's because 4 people voted for that state and 1 person voted for another state. Also, I'm not sure how these polls work but how do we know someone won't vote for a location more than once? I'm just trying to think of a fair way it can be done.

As for GA, Savannah has an airport and is very reasonable. The only two major airports in GA are Savannah and Atlanta. Atlanta really isn't too unreasonable as far as cost goes. I know Charleston SC has an airport, but I'm not too sure about how expensive of a city it is (IME, the majority of the places in the south are usually pretty cheap). Also, Greenville, SC has a major airport and its a pretty nice town, though I'm not positive how dog friendly they are. Those are the only cities close to airports that I have any experience with.

I think this is a great idea. Because when you talk east coast are you talking north or south?

When a poll is created you have the option to allow people to choose more than one option in your poll or just allow one vote.

Jodie - luvmysissy said last night she would start a poll today, but I don't know what it will look like. But I do like Ronlynn's idea about dividing the country into 4 areas and starting there -- ok, I'll already said I agreed with that earlier
