I try to play an active part in my health and at this time have a few chronic issues I'm on medication for that just sprung up over the last few years... so when I try to discuss medications, risks, what I can do -- I get rushed out the door, or told "not to be concerned with it".
I've left many times in tears because I just felt I wasn't heard. I've switched drs a few times, but still haven't found a general practitioner I really feel listens to me. It's something I truly wish I could find - a caring, concerned, patient physician. |
I agree that it isn't a man or woman doctor issue, but just a doctor issue. I left a doctor I had been going to for 19 years because he became less and less attentive. He would come into the exam room and never sit down, never ask if I had questions, kept walking around and was just in a big hurry to get rid of me. They had written sheets that said you could only get treatment for whatever you had made the appointment for and nothing else. If you broke your arm on the way to the doctor appointment, you would have to make another appointment to take care of that. I switched to another doctor who happened to be a woman and I love her. She acts like she has all day, which I know isn't true, but she sits down, discusses everything and asks if I have any questions or concerns. I think family physicians are a dying breed, perhaps an already dead breed!
