I have to take exception to this post. I am a parent who sends their child to private school and the lure is this: No mandates by the politicians and school boards. Money raised by the school and PTA can be used for providing students exactly what they need to succeed. Parents who actually care about their kids and are involved with providing and supportive and caring environments. Administrations that can custom plan curriculums and provide the children with challenging and intellectual learning plans. REX's mom: Yo should be grateful that your parents care so deeply about you that they spend tens of thousand each year to send you to school. This could be a yearly salary in some areas of the US. Both my husband and I went to private school and it has helped us greatly in our lives. Alumni Associations for private schools can provide endless resources for you later in life. Even at 6, my son understands the gift of the private education he receives here in Manhattan. No matter where you are, ther IS a difference between private and public. You will come out of a private education more enriched than your public school counterparts. SO, WHAT, you have to wear a uniform. Suck it up. Your parents are doing what's best for you.

| ![]() I had both of my kids in private school for 5 years. It got to the point that the rules were so ridicoulous (sp) that I couldn't stand it either. I let them both go to public school and they love it. There's a lot more to do, and it gives you freedom to grow up like every other kids. Try to get out of the school. Make a list of pro's and con's that you can give to your parents. I'd do a real good job on it because if the only thing you can tell them is you don't like the uniforms I don't think you'd have a chance. |

![]() oh and you might want to change the wording of "parents who actually care about their kids and are involved with providing supportive and caring environments" i understand that you wanted to make sure we understood that a parent is doign a good thing and providing a suportive and caring environment, but the way is came out was a little off......... it sounded to me (and i know this is not what you meant, because i have read your posts enought to know you dont insult anyone intentionally)... anyways, the way you worded it makes it sound like parents who dont care about their kids just send them to public school again, you are passionate about this subject which is good, but there are good along wsith the bad and private schools are no exception. Just because it is a private school does not make it condusive to learning, actually, (and the same goes with public, i am not leaving them out......... i personally would not want to go to a public school in south central LA for instance).. so when it comes to parenting, a parent should look at all assets available to them, if the school doesnt allow the parent to enter or visit during school hours then it is kind of a redflag......... lol......i should post more stories on that one private school my friend worked at, it was TERRIBLE ( but it was the administrators choice to make it this way....... )

| ![]() I agree with Chewysmom. I wasn't fortunate enough to be able to attend a private school (heck, I went without eating dinner a lot of times because my parents had no money) but if I could've, I would've. Be greatful you're parents are lucky enough to be able to spend $ on your education. |

| ![]() Orinskye: To set it straight, you are right, i would never intentionally insult anyone on this board.. Next I want to say that you are just plain wrong in your statement that private school are held to no standards. They do have ethical and educational standards to uphold. If anything, the educational standards are usually higher in a private environment. Parents expect more, plain and simple. My sons first grade curriculum is that of 3rd grade in some public schools. He is given opportunities that could not be afforded to him in a public school on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. He will be studying things in middle school that others only get to in the last 2 years of public high school here. Also, regarding your statement of parents visiting the school. Since when has this become such an issue. Unless it is for a specific activity, parents do not belong in the classroom. I'm not looking for an argument, I'm just stating my opinion. Rex's mom's parents are giving her a great head start and all she can do is whine about wearing a uniform. Sounds very ungrateful and it just irritated me. |

anyways, back to the parents in school......... in this particular case parents were DISCOURAGED from having that caring relationship that you preached about because it was "detrimental to life experience and that kind of caring is not goign to help them in life" (these are the ADMINISTRATORS EXACT WORDS) again this is one school and i am by no means generalyzing i am sure private education IS (when the right people are running it) a better place to learn than public school because the kids are given more individual attention (something i DESPERATLY WISH i could do with my own kids ![]() as far as the uniforms........... i was not "irritated" but if you look above i did state that even public schools have to wear uniforms in my district ( i was pretty much saying tough luck, or oh well...... just not in those exact words)
