| Grocery Shopping SHOCK!! Milk and produce seem to have hit us the hardest in this area. One bunch of carrots that was .99 cents a month ago is $1.99 and I got a small bunch of grapes $5.70.....how can a family do it. What is it like in your area??

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | It's rediculous here in NY. I was just reading an article that centered on moms doing a lot of bargain shopping and also looking into making their own cleaning supplies etc. It's scary how expensive things are getting.

| For the produce have you tried going to local farmers markets. Often buying locally will be cheaper b/c you aren't having to pay the extra money for the produce to be shipped to where you are. Also, I find that when I buy locally the stuff last A LOT longer before it spoils!

| It is ridiculous. I really budget myself and ts still $90 or more a week with only 3 of us. I really dont buy any convenience foods and only sometimes buy cookies or things from the bakery. I dont know how larger families do it. I try to buy only what we need

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | It is definitely getting harder. Very vicious cycle. Seems like the poor keep getting poorer and the rich just richer. There will be a point where there is no middle class...just the haves and have nots.

| My children are grown and I still spend a lot at the grocery store. Actually, I am on my way now to the store as soon as I can get away from YT.

Therapy Dog Donating Member | OMG grocery shopping is ridiculous that's for sure....you have to start shopping at more than one place to get the bargains but then you have to think twice about where they are located because the gas prices are on the rise here too! OMG gas is up to $3.50 here and it's not even summer yet. Not even the coupons are helping out anymore (not with 25 cent coupons) the mfgs. need to start raising those to at least 50 cents and higher to get any benefit from that. OMG look at how much a box of cereal costs these days.

| COST OF SUCH GROCERY ITEMS as milk and other dairy products, eggs and bread have lightened the pockets of customers nationally and locally. A gallon of milk at some stores has gone up about 30 cents in the past week. On a national level, the economy leaves shoppers scouring for coupons, discounts and any break they can get. Locally, in a city where the median household income in 2005 was an estimated $27,600, that shift in cost of living has shaken some families into uncertainty, making many pinch their pennies as they never had before. “Sometimes it feels like you walk into the store, spend $60 and only come out with a couple of things, “The cost of living seems to have gone up without our pay doing the same.”
