Mom to Marty & Maddie Donating Member | Trying to make a difference My family and I decided to do Relay-for-Life. I think it will really help my mom (who is fighting cancer right now) feel like she's helping both herself and others. It's great seeing her so excited about this, especially since the chemo really dampened her spirits. Has anyone done Relay before? If so, any suggestions? Our team name is Deb's Dream Team and you can see our page through the link in my signature. We don't have a group pic up yet, but hopefully soon. I attached a pic of my mom. She's our fearless leader. If you have any Relay stories, I'd love to hear them! |

| I think its great you are doing Relay for Life! It will certainly help her out and encourage her when she sees all the survivors when they do their first lap aroudn the track together. My mom always participates with our church, we have a HUGE group that does it. Are you going to try to stay the entire night? If so you may want to bring a jacket, it always seems to get chilly about 2am Also either bring some snacks or a bit of cash. At ours several groups will usually have grills going and sell food to others as part of their fundraising. Take a couple chairs so you can rest when you get tired If I think of anything else I'll let you know. I never have the time to participate, but I always go out for at least a bit to support mom.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | I think walking is wonderful and love that your mom is excited. My daughter has walked with a school group. They stay overnight...so along with chairs...she also took her sleeping bag and a pillow...others had brought large tents that slept 6 - 8....oh and a roll of TOILET PAPER. Facilities were porta potties...and subject to running out of paper. The group got together and individuals volunteered what food items they would bring. Every meal was covered this way. Some brought long folding tables, some coolers, and another a grill. The walk is held...regardless of rain. Take rain gear or pick up ponchos at the dollar store. As sladesmom said...there are groups that will have things to purchase...so you might want to take a little spending money There are events around the clock...some themed. Like one walk...was a hawaiian theme...one a beach...you'll have to look at your home site to find out if they're doing these I guess...then bring the appropriate attire or accessories. Have fun and good luck!!

| Good for you & supporting your Mother. Your a wonderful daughter. We did Relay for life last year. We had a booth and sold Spaghetti Lunches & Dinners. It was a huge success. We always had people walking and most of all had a blast. I strongly recommend putting a booth of some sort up. This will give you a better opportunity to raise more money. It could be as simple as selling Nachos for $2.50

Mom to Marty & Maddie Donating Member | Ohhh! The booth is a great idea. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. We have one advantage and that's that my mom lives less than a block away from the event so we can run back home if we forget anything. Mom said there must be at least one team member walking at all times so it would be okay for one of us to slip away for a few if we need to. If anyone would like to support us, you can click the link in my signature. Our team goal is $500, but Mom's surgery is Wednesday and we're trying to get as many donations as possible before then so that she knows how much people are supporting and thinking of her. We're hoping to print off the donation sheet to encourage her before she goes to surgery. Again, thanks for all the suggestions. This is our first time doing this so I didn't really know what to expect. |

| #8 I am on year #8. This is the second year I have been team captain. The food booth we set up was Lemon and Orange shakeups. We sold almost 500 of them that night. They are soooo easy. It is even better if you can get local businesses to donate cups, lids, straws etc. If you can get alot donated you could possibly make 1000 to 1500 just in shakeups. We have a secert recipe for them if you think you would be interested PM me and I will share. The extra ingredient makes ALLLLL the difference. For the donations check with your local Wal-mart see if they would donate something for it.' That is where we get our stuff but we are the Walmart team but our store donates to other teams as well. These go over great if it is hot. I second the toliet paper!!! Jamie |
