| Minnesota Woman Bites Pit Bull to Save Her Dog Thursday, April 03, 2008 Associated Press MINNEAPOLIS — Amy Rice feared for her dog's life when a pit bull jumped over a fence into her yard and attacked her pooch. So she took matters into her own mouth. Rice says she bit the pit bull on the nose Friday after trying to pull the dog's jaws off her Labrador retriever, Ella. The dog had jumped a fence to get into Rice's northeast Minneapolis yard, and Rice says she feared the pit bull would kill Ella. "I didn't plan it, that's what happened. I broke the skin and had pit bull blood in my mouth," said Rice, 38. "I knew what happened, and I knew that it wasn't good." The pit bull was quarantined Wednesday by Minneapolis Animal Control officers while rabies tests are being completed. Rice's doctor will determine whether she needs shots for rabies. "I was sure that my dog was dying in my arms; it was horrible," Rice said. Ella is recovering with staples and stitches to her head and a crushed ear canal, but she is afraid to go for walks, Rice said.

| I can't believe how sad this is. We can't even count on our own fences to save our little guys. Thank goodness she was able to free her dog. Drastic times call for drastic measures.

| Something needs to be done to make the owners confine their pets!! I do not know what, but way too many pets - that are just being pets- are being hurt! Anyone that is out with their pet needs to start carring pepper spray- or something- to protect their self and their pet!! and that is a sad statement!

| What the heck is going on with dogs attacking other dogs lately!! Seems to have gotten much worse. These are the reasons that those of us that have tiny dogs have gotten a bit paranoid these days to venture out anywhere, and now we have to worry about our own fenced back yards???????? Time to break out the pepper spray for sure. |

| It's a shame that it was a pit bull, just another mark against the breed.

| I saw that on the news this morning. This is why we need stringent laws to be put into place. This has nothing to do with the dog being a pitbull. ALL dogs must be leashed when walking in the street no matter their size!! Thats it! Its rediculous that ppl feel that they can let there animal loose with no problem and think " oh my baby wont hurt a fly" Thats BS and frankly the owner of the pitbull should be liable to pay all vet fees and rehabilitation of that dog...
