He just got out of surgery. It is way worse than they thought as the femur is totally shattered and pieces of bone went into the muscle. They couldn't put a steel rod into the bone inside his leg, so the steel rod is outside of his leg. He will have to be x-rayed every week to see how it is managing and in 3 months they will then cast the leg.

He's 10 and he broke it skateboarding.

I am attaching two pics. One of is his bandaged leg after surgery and the other one is an xray of his leg after surgery.

He is in a lot of pain, but they have him on a morphine drip tonight. He just sleeps. They'll keep him in for a while and then we really don't know what to expect.

I don't think he's going to have a good summer since the next 3 months will be as you see in the first pic, and then a cast for at least 6 weeks. Poor kid.

Poor kid. I feel his pain. I've had many breaks and actually have rods in my legs too. I'm sorry the surgery didn't work out as planned. Prayers for a speedy recovery.

Sookie, I'm just now seeing your updates... Oh my goodnes, I feel so bad for him! It looks INCREDIBLY painful...wow...poor child. And not that there's a "great" time for a kid to break a bone, but summer is going to be horrible...

Ugh, I just feel so bad for him...OUCH....will be praying for quick healing...he is a kid after all!
