| I have a compaq presario i love it, it does everything i need it too. when i get a new one i am going to get a tablet pc because they are really awesome and would work really nice. I don't really like apples, i don't have that much experience with them, and i don't like their formats but good luck with your search. Ohh and before i forget always get an extended warranty because my video card went out on mine and they came picked it up , fixed it, and dropped it off with in a week and a half and it didn't cost me a dime!

I don't know much about computer equipment because my husband always handles it. I'm really challenged with that kinda stuff (but I can make a MEAN Mojito!) But for what it's worth he always goes with Dell. Laptop, desktop, printer, fax/scanner/copier. All that stuff. I'm always able to find the programs/games/software and stuff that I care about, and it seems to fit his work needs. Oh, and he's big on wireless everything, but that's just because he's hyper and can't sit still for long! LOL

| This is what I did... WHen Christmas rolled around last year, I was tired of the fights between my husband , my mother and myself over who gets the computer. So I ran out on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) and bought the hubby a inexpensive laptop. Its a Compaq Presario and it is great for getting on line and playing games... ANd now he leaves my computer alone, and even my mother uses his..

| AS far as Mac's and PC's go. They run on different operating systems. Mac's are usually used more for graphics. The thought that mac's don't have as much software is not as true lately, most programs can be used by both. I use a Mac at work and a PC at home. I like them both. They are just different. But you can not even think about getting a Mac for the $550. that I bought my laptop for. If you have any more questions don't hesitate to write me

| Mac Minis are $499 http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL....3.1.0.0.0.1.0 even cheaper if you use their education store discount. Not a mac, but you can get an iBook for $999 and cheaper w/ ed discount. Amazon.com is good too. You can get all sorts of rebates and save on tax!

| i got one bit of advice for you. stay away from the emachine, from experience. emachine has a problem with the fan. it is not big enough to handle the amount of heat that a computer puts off. i bought one as an extra and had to set a fan on it to keep it cool enough to run. you guys think you got husband and computer problems. my husband plays poker on line on 2 coumputers(dell) at the same time. and is getting ready to add another one making him 3. i have 2 (HP & gateway) my self. and we have a dell laptop. my gateway is older and it is not hooked up on the internet. i just keep it around for odd stuff that uses lots of memory like pics. with a router and wireless card you can go any where. dell has some good prices. and check the local best buy they got some good offers lately too. kids going to college.

| Some reputable companies.. Toshiba, Dell, Sony, Fujitsu, IBM, Gateway, and I think HP is on its way up again. Sony laptops will be more stylish (but overpriced). IBM laptops are usually more business oriented (but very nice). Toshiba and Fujitsu's are good for the value. Dell has great support and reasonable prices (but imo, i think their computers are ugly). Gateway, I have no experience but my cousin has one of their laptops and he hasn't had a problem yet. I have a Dell centrino laptop (very light) for school use, and an Alienware bulky desktop replacement laptop (10lbs and overheats). Stay away from Alienware (support sucks, overpriced, etc.). If anything Alienware, consider their desktops as they are actually very nice. Dell replaced my faulty CDRW drive immediately and all I had to do is send the broken one within a month or so. For me, I cant stand using an Apple Macintosh PC. I've been a PC user for such a long time and I can practically do anything that a Mac can dish out on my Windows based computer. But that's just me. Props to Apple for their iPods though.. iPod sales probably saved the company.

| I have a SONY VAIO and I love it. I haven't had any problems with it yet. I love the portability of the laptops, and I think it's wonderful that I can lounge in bed or on the couch and still use the computer. Wireless routers were one of the greatest inventions ever! I still have yet to get a mouse, but I've been looking at some wireless "mice" (mice?? mouses?? LOL!) that you can use on just about any surface. I don't mind the touch pad, but still prefer to use a mouse. Oh, and tell your husband to keep on playing the online poker. My bf's friend is a major online poker fanatic. He was in a tournamnt last September, came in 4th place, and won $20,000!! He also won something like $4,000 or $5,000 a few months after that. |

| Just to let you guys know, visit these sites for "deals". I use the first two the most. www.slickdeals.net www.gotapex.com www.bensbargains.com They frequently monitor all sorts of stuff, but gotapex.com is especially good at keeping track of computer related deals. You'll see stuff like announcements for Free Ice Cream days by Ben & Jerry's or items that end up being free or very cheap after a mail-in coupon. Stuff like that. Just thought I would share... I purchased my current computer by looking at Gotapex.com. And, NO I'm not affiliated w/ these websites whatsoever. Just passing along the info to help us save a few bucks. |
