Mom to Marty & Maddie Donating Member | Photography People! Critique me please! Today, Bren and I picked my sister up from her after school program and decided since the weather was nice and I had the camera, that we'd take a few pics. I just can't get over how cute, adorable, and grown-up she looks. If you have any suggestions or advice to help me become a better photographer, I'd really appreciate it! 1. This was a test shot that was overexposed. I thought it was too cute to toss so I converted it to black and white and played with the histogram until it looked alright. I actually really like the result! 2. Wish I'd taken this one from a higher angle. I was concentrating so hard on getting the blue sky behind her head rather than the dark green mountains that I got too low and you can't see her face very well because of her arm. Oops... 3. Just having fun. Not my favorite for composition, but she's just so darn cute that I had to share! 4. Doesn't she look tough!? LOL |

Mom to Marty & Maddie Donating Member | Some more 1. All attitude! 2. I wish I had moved this pic slightly to the right so that I didn't cut off her hand and also so she'd be off-centered just a bit. I'll do better next time! I really like the colors though... |

Mom to Marty & Maddie Donating Member | Thanks everyone! Megan, I'm kicking myself for not moving that one to the left more. It wouldn't have cut off her feet and would have gotten rid of most of the house in the background. I always come home after shooting, download the pics, THEN realize that there were a million things I should've done differently. *sigh* There's always next time! |

I was using a canon 18-55 f/3.5-4.5 standard kit lens. (I'm looking into new lenses and I definitely want a 50 f/1.8 and a 24-70 f/2.8 or something similar.) Settings were 1/400 f/5.6 200 ISO. I only recently switched to manual so it that was just guess work. Post processing I upped the saturation for web and on the b&w's I played with the histograms to get more contrast. I am open to any suggestions! | |

On the second post second pic...I think it would look great if you would of zoomed it in and turned your camera slighty to get a angle and focused on her face. (Hope this makes sense) That is really a good pic.
