| Cow appreciation day ATTENTION, “MOO”VERS AND SHAKERS: COW APPRECIATION DAY IS COMING UP! Worshipped as a mother goddess in early Mediterranean civilizations and held sacred to Hindus as a symbol of the earth itself, the gentle cow can teach us all a thing or two about slowing down and smelling (okay, eating!) the flowers. You can honor the beautiful bovine on the upcoming 20th annual Cow Appreciation Day on Monday, July 18 (though some folks celebrate it on July 15—that’s tomorrow]. Consider sending a pal an e-greeting (visit a search engine and type in “Cow Appreciation Day” to find one) or viewing the photo gallery at Farm Sanctuary online. |

Hey Im in Wisconsin. So i can relate to the cow appreciation day being a big deal. Ill let ya'll in on a little secret about me. I do have a pet cow. When I was a kid my dad dairy farmed. Well, when I was a teenager he bought a heard of 25 new milking cows from a farm that was selling out and there was one in the heard that wasn't very good at producing milk. Most of the time when this happens, the cow is made into food. Not this one though. Stella won my heart and is now just a lawn ornament. i love her dearly. Dad doesn't find the humor in keeping her around but he wont let down his little girl. Stella is getting WAY up there in age. She is 14 almost 15 years old. But I love her. | |

MeganS and I are both not far from each other in Jersey (the state of-not the breed of cow! lol) So we are more likely to see strip malls than cows! Although there is a farm just a couple of miles down the road from me - I live in the "horse country" part of Jersey - that have these really cute cows that I call the Oreo Cows. They are literally black cows with a white stripe around their belly. I'm not sure what the official name is, but they are really cool. The same 'farm' has a bunch of cute really small goats in the same field as the cows. I love to watch them while I sit at the red light - remember I'm in Jersey, now! Probably not many other places where you can watch cows while sitting at a stop light! I'm sure these guys are more pets like your Stella is than they are farm animals! Don't take this the wrong way, but I'll be thinking of you now everytime I see them! tee hee

| Oh, I want to see pix of Stella too! I always thought that if I had cows they would definatley have to be dairy cows cause then I wouldn't be raising them just to *gulp* well, out of respect for Stella, I won't finish the sentence, lol!
