Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Pit Bull Just Attacked Horse!!!! Want another reason not own a pit bull! My son just called & his girlfriend's horse was just attacked by a pit bull! Of course, the owner of the pit bull said "It never happened before". They were getting it out of the barn & had just opened the stall door when this dog cam from across the highway into the barn & ran in Trixie's stall....the emerg vet came, had to bring it in to the vet clinic, all skin is off of the back legs, no person was bit, the owner came & shot it...he had an ug fence & didn't realizse he had cut it yesterday doing work.....I am so mad right now!!!!! The vet has said it will be months before she is healed.....The owner shot the dog in the head & it was (according to my son) pumping blood out & still didn't go down!!!!!

Therapy Dog Donating Member | OMG Kay I'm so sorry to hear about your son's girlfriend's horse...I hope the horse will be OK. See this is the second post today about a pit bull attacking. Sorry but I'm no fan of pit bulls or rotts. And people still think these dogs are safe with our Yorkies..I don't get it.

| How terrible I hope the poor horse was not too badly hurt in the long run. Its so scary to see what bad blood runs in these breeds, I just dont understand why they continue to be kept in many homes as pets.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I just don't get it! How many people and animals have to be hurt or killed? This dog came from across a rural highway into a barn and then into a stall..it's not like it could even see the horse from where it came from....I am so upset, I can't wait to get off work & go see Trixie. My son, who is an animal lover, is in shock about what he saw- he is a strapping 21 y/o Sr. in college and farm boy....thanks for letting me vent....they have called the sheriff's dept. But, what if it had went after my son, the emerg. vet or the barn owner???

My Lil Man! Donating Member | Oh my gosh! Thats awful! I hope the horse gets better and everything heals up ok!! I may be the only one but I dont think its the breed of pit bulls thats bad...it all comes down to the way they are raised. I have grown up around pits ALL my life...whether it was my dads pit or my uncles, or my cousin, or my grandparents, lol...yes we have all had them. lol....but you get the idea...I grew up around pits..basically raised with them and we NEVER had one ever try to bite us or anyone else and the only thing the dog ever killed were squeaky toys. Lol. We showered them with love and affection and they all turned out to be the best dogs. However...you get people who buy them and shove them in a cage all their life not letting them have enough exercise and attention or if they do something wrong..instead of calmly correcting them..they hit them and yell at them...then yea...That dog is gonna grow up and be your worst enemy or just wait until it can get away from you and tear up the first thing that comes into its field of vision. They can be mean but its all in the way their owner raised them. Im not trying to cause a congflict I just disagree with what people think of pits and feel obligated to share my story in defense for the breed...not for the dog that attacked the horse..but for the breed. So please dont act like they are terrible breeds that need to be done away with...its the crappy way people treat animals that needs to be done away with...Vick...man raping dog...come on..that is disgusting and disturbing! We need more of us YTers to own animals! |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Sorry, I don't agree with it's not in the breed.....If you research online - The American Vet Assoc says in a study that 65% of all severe & fatal bites are from Pit Bulls, Pit Bull Mixes & Rott's. Just look up Pit Bull kills in a search engine-it is unbelievable. If you had just experienced what my son went thru-the dog chased this horse almost a mile down a rural highway-tore off all the back leg skin-then came back after the owner shot him in the head & my son had to try and hold it back from his horse, you might think differently. Sorry, but there is to much data to make me think you could ever trust them

He might have been rabbit. |

My Lil Man! Donating Member | Oh yea one other thing i meant to add lol....its not just the way the owner of the dog raises it but if the parents or grandparents were treated badly and became mean...it is easier for the kid to become mean if treated badly or ticked off but not limited to it. Genetics can play a role but it only goes back to the grandparents..beyond that its not very relevant or reliable. Like I said...im not trying to cause problems..I just feel like everyone should know the truth about pits b/c they have such a bad rep. Dalmations were the first dog to ever bite someone and it bit a child..yet dalmations seem to be one of the greatest dogs...second to Yorkies...THEY ARE #1!!! I do tend to be biased towards yorkies tho! hehe |

| im sorry about these attacks but i still believe its human responsibility ! i just do not and will not believe ever pitts are vicious because they are pits! i would definately hold the dogs owner responsible for all vet bills! actually he should not have any dogs in the future either !

| OH NO!! The poor horse...I hope that she will be okay!!! The dogs owner shot him right there.... I could never own a mean dog because there would be no way I could shoot one.....but I am glad he did, I guess, because that could have ended up worse then it did. We have a friend that has a huge rott (HUGE) that she has had forever, but he is MEAN! They have him in a cage with a cage (or pen)...it is a huge cement slab w/ a wrought iron cage and then another wrought iron fence around that....She said that has he has gotten older, he has gotten meaner (is that a word ) and she just can't bear the thought of putting him down! Well, if you can't even love on your dog or let him out w/o the worry of him attacking someone, why have him around??? --course, I have never been in that position (and won't ever be)...be really!

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | I love horses, and I'm so sorry that happened. I hope she feels better soon. I don't think we should blame the whole breed. I go into this all the time, so I won't start again, but every dog doesn't need to be punished because a few owners don't excercise/give enough attention to their dogs.
