| Any vet techs here? I'm thinking of starting to work on a degree in another area. I think i would enjoy being a vet tech but I'm worried about how i would handle the bad stuff. What do you think of your job?? |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Yup, i'm a vet tech. I've been working with animals since I was 13, and i'm not 25. I started out working at the animal shelter so i was exposed to the bad stuff there (euthanasia mainly). During college i worked for a few hospitals as a assistant and then a tech, and after college i got a full time tech job. Right now i work for an orthopedic surgeon in an emergency and referral hospital. LOTS of work, and LOTS of stress. in any hospital, the good is going to outweigh the bad. You get to help so many animals and people on a daily basis. Plus you learn A LOT. If you have any questions please feel free to ask or PM me

| Ha ha Jenn! This is something i'd have to do slowly over a couple of years, I know that being a stay at home mom won't last forever and when I go back to work full time much down the line, i don't think i want to go into the same field. Last edited by chloeandj; 01-31-2008 at 02:15 PM. |

| I know at our vet, she will allow certain people (I know one girl was 12 when she started) and now she is off to college to become a vet....but she lets certain ones work in the summers (doing light duties around the office, clean ups, watching, etc). AND has they progress, she will then allow them to help with the animals...nothing major, but just to get them set in the right direction to prepare them for college.

the pay is not the best and that's a shame. I do make more at my current job then when i was working for a general practice. If you have a college degree or a vet tech license you will get paid more. most hospitals base pay on experience, so to start out you won't get alot.
