usually the vet does it, but i have done it once before. Not a fan... At a general practice a tech's responsibilities can vary from hosp to hosp. Here are a few things you'll have to do: get patient history from clients before the vet sees them, restrain all types of dogs and cats, give vaccines, take temps, clean ears, perform dentals, draw blood, run blood and urine analysis, read fecal samples, take ECGs and blood pressure readings, place catheters, prep for surgery, monitor anesthesia, recover patients, and lots and lots of cleaning, plus many more things.

the pay is not the best and that's a shame. I do make more at my current job then when i was working for a general practice. If you have a college degree or a vet tech license you will get paid more. most hospitals base pay on experience, so to start out you won't get alot.
