| Letters of Recommendation? Hey All!! I'm getting ready to graduate from UCDavis in March and I have been trying to get organized! Those of you who have graduated from college or applied to companies-- how did you go about letters of recommendation? Some places offer a letter service where they hold/make copies of all your letters and send them off to grad school/prospective employers for you... or do you just keep them and make copies yourself? I'm to the point where I want to start collecting letters but where to put them is the question... THANKS ALL!!

| You are cracking me up today Shouldn't you be writing? I asked my college professors for recommendation letters and had a bunch of copies printed and then they were signed. I kept them all in a file and sent them out with my printed application materials (the letters were in individual envelopes). You will also want to scan some or get email copies since most companies are moving towards online application systems. |

| Great idea, Kim... Make sure you save an e-copy-either as a Word document/PDF/JPG so that you always have one and can print more as needed. I'm not sure what field you're entering into, but it's always nice to have these letters match/coordinate with your resume-or stand out on the prof.'s own letter head too. Just think about that when asking for them/printing them. I went into the art/design/marketing field, so I always had things printed on funky paper with cool fonts so that my stuff had a better chance to catch the interviewers' eye. The fact that you're posting this makes me think you're organized enough to keep them yourself Don't waste $ on a letter service right now-JMO. Best of luck to you!

I am graduating with an English degree and I don't plan to attend grad school. I'm hoping I can find a job right out of college.... BUUUUUT I also have my back-ups. I have my real-estate license (which really won't do me much good with the market being so bad in Cali)... So we'll see what happens I appreciate your input. THANK YOU!

| One last question... Do some people prefer to have the person NOT read what they wrote in the letter of rec.? If that is the case... how am I to obtain several copies/a word doc on the computer? Just curious because I thought that some letters were sealed??

| Depending on the jobs you are applying for I've never had a problem with needed rec. letters sealed. The only thing I've ever been asked for sealed are official college transcripts. Actually I've been applying for a lot of jobs the past few months and only a handful have even asked for rec. letters. |
