After working several years at a counseling center, my nieve eyes were opened to how truely horrible the the things we read about or hear about can effect lives. Seeing what victims and their families go thru tore my heart out. I was the administrator, not a counselor, but sometimes clients would bear their souls to me and Iwould go home in tears just knowing how deeply the scars went. We also worked with the police dept. to counsel those that had been arrested and sentenced to counseling, so I got to see the ugly side, too. As hard as it may be for your dtr to talk about it, it will help. Sometimes, talking to a stranger who has no emotional involvement is easier. They can see past the pain to help the victim understand and deal with it. I have a bi-polar step-dtr and s-i-l, and know that the right meds and dosages are extremely important. It took over 10 yrs to find the right combination for my s-d and the one that works for my sil is unaffordable so he can't hold down a job. I know you are doing everything in your power to support your dtr, and it will help her more than you or she realizes. I am so sorry this happened and will keep you all in my prayers.

Denise, I wanted to let you know I am praying for you. I have worked psych and in the counseling field. It sounds like you are a great support system for your daughter. I hope she can build that same level of trust with her doctors and counselor. Please if you need to talk with someone about the hurt you have, watching her go thru all of this, do not hesitate to talk with a counselor.

It is very difficult to watch loved ones go thru life living with bipolar issues. And it's very difficult watching someone deal with PSTD and the horrors of a crime - so the fact that you are watching her deal with both these issues has got to be very trying.

Oh I'm sorry my prayers and thoughts are with you. If the assault inflicted that much damage I would think this is a little more then a he said she said situation. Keeping my fingers crossed that justice is done and that man gets what's coming to him. However, in today's society I'm beginning to lose faith in the system and am beginning to become a firm believer in street justice. Has her friend been able to collaberative anything?

Wow. I just sat down to see what everyone was up to and found all of your sweet remarks. Both my kids are disabled so Andy is here with Amy all day. They said things were ok today. Still no word of when she can go in the center. The Texas Victim's Assistance have offered counseling for Amy and also her brother and I if we want. She has been once and doesn't want to go back. At her visit she did confirm that the episodes she has been having are flashbacks..she says they're in black and white. While laying on the sofa a few days ago she was happy watching tv and BAM. She said it's black and white pictures that just blindside her. It's has been many years since she was an emotional girl, the pharmaceuticals have basically robbed her of emotion. Now when this happens she openly sobs. That's when Giz is all up in her kool aid and she gets the old tongue up the nostrils, I tell you that little guy is the light of our life.

Guys, I have learned the hard way to always be aware of my surroundings. Amy asked me to get her some pepper spray, it sits here on the table because she doesn't want to go anywhere. She says it makes her feel safe.

Lord I can't believe I'm airing all this stuff for all to see. Our family will get thru this, I have faith and I fall asleep talking God's ear off every night. Thanks ladies for the IM's also, everyone has been so kind. I'm gonna go start some supper. Giz is in there rattling his bowl..the master awaits.

I guess I should have given a little more detail earlier. Amy is 24 and bipolar. She is on Lithium, Effexor, Topomax, Seroquel, Synthroid and a few others. She rarely leaves the house but to go to the dr. Around Halloween she got out for a while to visit one of her old high school friends. While there the girl left her to watch her 6 month old baby long enough to buy groceries. While she was gone, one of the girl's husband's friends showed up and the unbelievable happened to my daughter..she was assaulted. In her state of mind she was unable to tell anyone until a few weeks ago. Detectives told us by waiting this long, even tho he did have an extensive rap sheet, without evidence it's her word against his. He told us what detail and all it would involve and that in the shape she was in they doubted she could hold up to it. I have been taking her back and forth for treatment in Galveston because she has Endometriosis and Polycystic Ovaries and (sorry to be so graphic)..a lot of damage was done.

Amy has been suffering from PTSD now and the flashbacks have started. I had heard about them but never witnessed somebody experience one till now. It would break your heart. The couselor at the Crisis Center said they could last a year or longer. The behavioral Center the dr is attempting to get her into is at capacity and waiting for a bed.

Please sincerely keep Her in your prayers. My daughter is a very beautiful and special girl.

I cant even believe I am about to do this, but something very similar happend to me 10 years ago. I was drugged, raped (omg...!) and it was video taped. Medically, I was fine and I supressed everything until about 5 years ago. I saw a story on the news about a case that was similar to mine and I went "off the deep end". Out of nowhere everything that I buried came to the surface....and then some. I remember not being able to breathe and it was so bad that I ended up in the ER. They told me I was having a nervous breakdown. I ended up in therapy and was diagnosed with PTSS. I'm shaking so bad now that I cant type anymore, but if you need any info on a breakdown or PTSS, just pm me.

I also want to offer my sincere condolences for your daughter. I PRAY that she eventually finds a sense of peace. It is a very long and cold road that she will have to travel, but with you there to love her and give her support, the road will hopefully be one that she wont have to travel alone.

I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. Just a few months ago we leared that our 27 year old daughter is bipolar. She is on some of the same medications that your daughter is taking. Doctors still have not found the correct meds for her. She also spent a week in Florida at a treament center and is seeing a therapist. We also found out that she has been taking between 200 and 300 tylenol about every 3 days (for throat and nose pain from when she had strep throat over a year ago) which has totally destroyed her sinus's and the septum in her nose. The septum has come completely out. She will have to have several reconstructive surgery's to repair the damage. She also has very little voice. Due to the fact that she has trouble eating, she now weighs 93 pounds. She has two children. Right now the 9 year old is living with us and going to school while her mother is recovering. We live in different towns. She has a long road ahead of her.

Illness like these are so hard for families to deal with. I know a little of what you are going through. Our children are our children no matter how old they may be.
