I'm such a procrastinator and haven't really been driving anywhere so it completely slipped my mind. I should probably get that done! This thread reminded me of that lol

| What a bummer. I've been super lucky at avoiding jury duty. All the groups that I've been in have been dismissed ... I've never had to show up at the courthouse |

When my cousin got picked to be part of a jury, it took them several months to wrap the case up. She missed so many days of work because of it.

| They must have some documentation that you live in NY, or you wouldn't have gotten a summons for Jury Duty at your address. Do you have your car registered in NYC where you live? Car insurance? Passport? Where would you have to go? 100 Center Street?? Might be interesting. You have winter break now anyway. They have to have some reason to send you a notice. But do not worry, I do not think you will end up in jail or paying a $1,000 fine.

| Oh I would SOOOOOOO love to go to jury duty! I wish I wish I wish they would make me go! I'd be their most willing participant ever ![]() I am a court reporter (take depositions, don't go to court) so obviously I love this kind of thing, but OMG I would love to go. I hope I get called sometime...soon! But as everyone said, take a book or something to do because I know there is waiting (learn ALLLLL about selecting a jury in CR school...) and such in between, but answer truthfully, and, hey, you may just get on an interesting trial

| My best suggestion would be to show up for jury duty. It can be fun sitting in the jury room. Be sure to take so reading material AND pics of your Yorkies to brag about!!!!! Maybe you will make new friends.I WOULD LOVE to serve on a jury, but I am always excused - I am an ex-cop - but give me a break, that was over 26 years ago |

| So many people I know have been called recently for jury duty!!!! One week....I had two of my best friends that were called for the same week....that was really strange!!! I even heard on Entertainment Tonight this past week that Mary Hart was away for jury duty.

God Bless you for your post!!!! I wish more people thought like you Cindy!!!! Its been said..... most juries are comprised of 12 people who couldn't dodge it! How sad is that??? My jury was mostly retired men and women who would have zero excuse not to serve, not that I believe any of them tried to get out, I have no idea what their curcumstances were. My case was a LONG one and was right between thanksgiving and Christmas, a time of year that people want to be with their families. Putting a jury together was very hard I'm sure! But pulling a sex offender off the streets is no easy job. I personally want to thank every Cindy Hice out there who has the right attitude about Jury Duty. In exchange for the protection that we have under our laws, and the safety that our justice system, as flawed as it may be, allows us.... the least we can do.... is do our part. Do we want the rapists, child molesters, and murderers off the street? than we need to SHOW UP and make sure that we are there to listen to the testimony, examine the evidence, and be a part of the process that takes these people off the street. We are running out of "someone else" to handle the problems of our communities... please get involved in every way you can. And jury duty is your civil duty... I personally would be ashamed to dodge it. Think about it guys... what would happen if nobody showed up??? k

| The first time I was ever called for Jury Duty was right after I moved to CA, and I got selected to sit on the jury for a 2 month criminal quadruple murder trial. I am lucky that I work for the federal government, so they will pay me my full pay for an unlimited time while serving on a jury. Because of that, jury duty is like a paid vacation from work, and an opportunity to really do something good for my peers, and dare I say...a lot of fun ??? (I realize it is not as "enjoyable" for people who only get paid for a day or two of jury duty from their regular jobs). It was very difficult at times given the kind of case I was on (yes...we had to look at pictures of the 4 burned bodies and listen to the other family members talk about the deceased), but we ended up sentencing an evil man to life in prison at San Quentin on 4 counts of murder, 1 count of arson, 1 count of burglary, and 1 count of robbery. I would love to serve on another jury, but I haven't heard anything from the courts since. |
