Jury Duty! I got the notice! Apparently they sent it to me twice before but i didn't get them and now they're saying this is the last time and if i dont show up in 10 days i can go to jail or have to pay $1,000:eek: ahhhhh lol |

I thought jury duty summons were hand delivered. Just don't answer any questions about it on the phone. There is a new scam---check it out on Snopes |
If they don't send it registerred mail they can't prove you got it before. Hopefully you will be dismissed quickly |
take plenty to do - it can be a lot of sitting around to see if they even want you. Double check what the lay is if you are a full-time student - I imagine the standards vary by state or even county |
They were a lot more lenient about letting people slip out before but now they are on top of it. Yep totally agree they can't prove you received two prior notice and dismissed them. |
They're sooo strict about jury duty! My friend Lauren was asleep on her couch (in her jammies :D) when a cop came knocking on her door and told her she had to go to the courthouse or he'd arrest her haha. I think I'd like to be in a jury. Is it really that bad? |

I got out of it once because I was on Hospital bed rest with my last pregnancy. I had to have my Doctor write a note for it too, as they would not take my Husbands word that I was hospitalized! It was over 10 years ago, and it has so far been the only time that I got asked to do it. My mom could not get out of hers, even with my father having to go up to the hospital during the time frame. She told the bailiff that if the trial was still going on when dad had to go up for his procedure, he gould issue a warrant for her arrest because she was not going to come in on that day. Luckily, no warrant had to be issued as it did not last over 3 day's! |
If your a registered voter or have a drivers license, then your name goes into a computer and then names are just randomly selected. On the card you get in the mail it tells you exactly what time to call and then your told what day to show up. Quite a few people show up at the same time and then the process of interviewing and selecting for jury duty starts. If they end up with enough selected people before you have had your turn, they tell everyone else they can leave. I sat all morning once, they had us break for lunch, then I sat another couple of hours. I never had my turn before the rest of us were let go. I was picked to be on a jury 2 years ago for a murder trial. It was my first time ever being summoned for jury duty too. Although it was a long process, once the jurors were picked things got going the following day. I thought the case was pretty interesting. My favorite part was the medical examiner's testimony and pics. Guess I'm weird :rolleyes: but I've always been interested in that kinda stuff. |
