| Christmas lights=fire hazard??? My daughter has been begging me to put some christmas lights in her room. So, as I am putting them up, I am worrying about fire safety. should I be scared that the christmas lights we buy from wal-mart could set my daughters room on fire?? i'm just a bit afraid of fires...so your thoughts on this would be appreciated

| I understand why you would worry, but if you are buying new lights (from Wal-mart or anywhere else) they should be very safe. I would just be sure to unplug them before going to bed at night and also when leaving the house. I used to put a small tree in my daughters room and she got so much enjoyment from it. She loved to watch the lights until she fell asleep. She is now 27 years old and has 2 children of her own. I wish I had her back at home with a little tree in her room. She has had a very difficult year. She is bipolar and not doing very well. We only have our children for a short period of time. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

| My son has had a tree every year since he was 2 years old...he is 11 now. We put up his tree in his room about a week ago. He plugged it in everyday for the first few days then the novelty wore off. Now its just up and he never turns the lights on. I too was nervous about having it on in his room. I never leave it on for long periods of time.

Also unplug when you're not home and when she's sleeping. I used to put lights in my room for the holidays and it always looks so cool and gives the room a nice look.
