I understand why you would worry, but if you are buying new lights (from Wal-mart or anywhere else) they should be very safe. I would just be sure to unplug them before going to bed at night and also when leaving the house. I used to put a small tree in my daughters room and she got so much enjoyment from it. She loved to watch the lights until she fell asleep. She is now 27 years old and has 2 children of her own. I wish I had her back at home with a little tree in her room. She has had a very difficult year. She is bipolar and not doing very well. We only have our children for a short period of time. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
