I just found your thread today. I'm sorry for your little grandson and will certainly add him to my prayer list. He is a darling little guy and I can imagine that your heart is breaking for him.:(

I know that prayer changes things, so I'll believe with you that our prayers will change his health for the better.:)

God bless your Grandson - What a doll - I know they say there is a reason for everything - so try and find the positive - My prayers are with you and your family.

Ok, I just got off the phone with Elizabeth and am so confused. Here's what I think I understand.

So far Devin has tested positive for 2 different bugs plus something called CMV. I have to do some reading up on this on the internet but it sounds like it is going to be a long term trouble maker and possibly could have some devestating effects down the road in that it may have or may still harm his organs. There is also a fluid pocket in his belly. Right now he is too sick to see about any of the of these problems. He is sedated with the ventilator in and on several different antibiotics, pain meds and meds to get the CMV under control. He has to be let to rest and get stronger before they can even look into what is causing the fluid pocket or check his organs to see if there is any damage. They say he may have damage from all that happened yesterday and from the CMV. Of course the surgery scheduled for the 1st is not going to happen.

Things don't sound great right now but I don't know what to think. Just have to wait, pray and see what happens over the next few days. Part of me thinks we will just work through this and he will come out just as before and part of me wonders how much more his little body can take. Christmas has always been special for our family but this year will definately have a black cloud over it.

I've been thinking and praying for little Devin since reading your thread. I feel so bad for him and his family. *HUG* I know it doesn't sound good, but miracles still happen and I pray for a miracle with little Devin. He has been through a lot in his young life, bless his heart...and yours too!

Hi ladies,

There isn't much more to tell right now. They can't seem to get him off of the ventilator right now because every time they try he just can't do it on his own. So that's one of the goals right now to just get off the vent. So not much has changed, mostly just waiting for him to get stronger before they can check into the other problems. They did name one of the bugs yesterday as Ecoli. A hard one for him to fight in his state. His kidneys are not working at the moment. They don't know if there is damage from CMV or damage from the heart stopping the other day or what. They do say that sometimes when people go through the heart stopping like that that the kidneys may take a few days to wake back up. I'm praying that we will see it start to do something today, I don't know how long he can go before they have to start dialysis. He is swelled up like a balloon at the moment and no way to get the fluid out as the lasiks didn't work so they stopped them.
We might know more after rounds which won't be until sometime after 9:00 Seatle time.
