Migraines anyone?

I was diagnosed with migraines when I was 14. I've been through meds after meds after meds and nothing has helped. I have been allergic to most of the meds I have been given, so I've just given up trying to take medicine. When I get them I usually try to go and lay in a dark cold room. That helps me go to sleep and it helps it alittle. Normally I have migraines that last up to a week. It sucks.

I have had severe migraines since college,so...over 30 years. I now take zomig which is non drosy.When I feel1 coming on I try to go in a quiet room & lie down after I take a pill b4 the nauses & all the other symptoms compound.I used to be on imitrex that wrked like a charm, but I have high blood pressure so my doctor switched me, I hope your hubby only has random migraines, not chronic like me.

TELL ME MORE!!! I get daily headaches, plus the once weekly migraine. My neurologist suggested Botox last week. I have never heard of that being used for headaches. I am thinking it over...wasn't quite sure about doing it or not. Did it make a huge difference for you?? LET ME KNOW!!! I am desperate. I take Fioricet every day and that can't be good for me.

I started suffering from migraines after my twins were born 26 years ago and at times I just wanted to die. I tried everything, injections, pills even had to go to the ER a several times for a shot of darvon nothing helped until about 6 years ago when my doctor suggested I try Zomig and what a blessing it is for me. I take a half a pill and lay down and 20 to 30 minutes I feel like a new person. There have been a few times it didn't help and I had to take a sudafed with it to get relief. For some reason sometimes my migraines also cause my sinuses to flare up.

I do not have this problem, but my daughter does from time to time...I just want to said after reading this thread..God bless all of you..I pray each day for all who suffer in any way...

I suffer from them and I found imetrix (sp?) works really good. Hopefully this is a one time thing for your hubby though, I wouldn't wish migraines on anyone!

My mom uses Zomig, and if I don't have imetrix she'll give me her zomig..it works pretty good. She does the sudaphed thing as well, and sometimes she'll take it w/ Monster drink and she says that helps get rid of them really good.

I've been getting migraines since puberty as well. Since going on BC pills the frequency of my migraines has lessened. I used to get them for the whole week before my period. It was a severe pain that never went away no matter what i took. Lights bothered me A LOT. I would just sit in my room in the dark when i got home so as to not aggravate them more.

now i don't have them every month like before, but every couple. And the pain isn't as severe. Its more like a dull annoying pain that won't go away. Lights still bother me tho during this time.

I started getting migraines when I was 9. For years, I didn't know what they were. I'd feel awful enough that I wanted to die, just go home and bury my head underneath the covers and sleep it off. Sometimes they lasted for days. I was finally diagnosed with them when I was 19. After being taken to the ER and getting a shot of Demerol, my doctor prescribed me Imatrex. 50MG and it'd knock them out a half hour after I took one. If it didn't (I never had this happen), I could take another. And I tell you, it was a godsend!

A few years back, I started seeing a new chiropractor. About 6 months after I started seeing him, my migraines disappeared. I occasionally get a tinge of one every once in awhile but nothing like I did.

So I recommend a chiropractor and if he can't work the magic, try Imatrex or another one of the meds out there. I don't know why anyone would sit back and suffer when there's stuff out there to help. I wish I'd known sooner.

I used to have one a year as a teen and young adult, but once I started having kids they stopped... wierd. I'm sorry some of you really suffer with them and I hope that Hubby will not start into a recurring pattern.

Until recently I have had recurring severe monthly headaches since my early 20s. I thought they were related to the time of the month and The Pill. I could go to bed fine and wake up in the middle of the night with a pounding headache. It felt like a really bad hangover. I always felt tired and couldn't sleep enough. Sometimes light bothered me too. Everytime I moved my eyes it seemed like I could feel every tendon and muscle in my eye sockets throbbing. Most of my headaches were always the front quarter of my head, from my eyes back to my temples and up to the top of my head. My fix was lots of Excedrin and a cold frappucino. The headaches became more frequent and could happen at any time. Then my OB doc mentioned that my blood pressure was borderline. Much later I went to have kidney stones removed and was having the motherload of headaches (probably from the stress). The nurse told me my blood pressure was 160/98 and asked me if I had high blood pressure. I mentioned I had a really bad headache and was told that was one of the symptoms of high blood pressure. Since the kidney stone incident I drink tons of water and really watch my salt intake because of the BP. I also stopped The Pill. Since then I have hardly had a headache....maybe one every four months and nothing like the zingers I had been getting.

I really feel for your husband. I hope he can find a treatment that works for him.

Well, I have had them for so long, I can't remember. Not as long as some ladies on here though, I would say 15 years? Mine are typically tension headaches in the beginning and progress to a full blown, can't move migraine.

My neurologist started me on them about a year ago. I can't imagine my life without it! They do the injections in all of the major migraine areas, plus in my shoulders and neck, right at the base of my skull. I use 2 voles for my treatment (I also have a nervous tic that is treated with Botox). I noticed immediate relief! It lasts typically about 3 months, and you may be a little red/swollen in the areas that they inject, it hurts a little...but I always tell my doc that it is less pain than a migraine! As the botox gets to the end of the 3 months I feel a little headache here or there and I know I have to get in and be re-done soon! I also keep Midrin on hand for just-in cases, and with the botox, even a tylenol will knock out the inklings of a headache. I would say, if you are being covered by insurance on it, then go for it! It is much better than having to treat a migraine, think of it as a preventative. If you can do it, I am 100% a supporter of it! Also, on the up side of it.. if you have a good doc and a little extra botox...he may do the beauty ones for you too, since the vole is already paid for! Mine does...hehe. Oh, and the voles are typically about $500 each.

I'm so happy (not for any one) that I have people I can talk to about migraines, and you guys know what I'm talking about! I ENVY people who can take tylonel for a headache. I'm lucky if excedrin works! I've had them since I was 15 and have tried so many different things for them, and nothing works. At one point I was getting them numerous times a week...and the insurance won't cover all the Imatrex that I needed The day I'm cured of migraines I will definitly be celebrating...hopefully that day will be soon!

One thing I wanted to mention though was accupuncture, I was doing that for awhile and it did seem to help, I'm working on trying to find something else though because I don't really care for the needles, and it can get , and didn't cure them completely. Right now I'm trying to find a comfortable pillow to sleep on, because now it seems no matter where/how I sleep, I wake up w/ a sore neck, which eventually leads to a migraine later in the day. Before I was on Seasonal (a pill where you only get your period 3x year) and I was getting them almost every day..once I quit that they calmed down..but now I think it's getting back up there

IMITREX works for me also ... sometimes I need the injection to make the headache go away faster .... Migraines are so debilitating ...

Oh so sorry about those nasty headaches, I think I had only couple time in my live those kind of headache, a ex-coworker just get them all the time even the bright lites just to bother her
