| when I run out of carpet cleaner, I use the Oxy powder mixed with water and sometimes some of my pet stain product. You don't want to use anything that gets too sudsy. Maybe some human shampoo or really diluted dish soap?

| You can mix a small amount of laundry detergent in a bowl of water (by small amount I mean about a tablespoon or a little less), add a tiny bit of liquid fabric softner (this keeps it from sudsing too much). Add this to your water resevoir on your machine and finish filling up with water. After you are done rinse your water tank out really well and refill with plain water and go over the carpet again to make sure you rinse the other solution out. A friend of DH's who used to clean carpets for a living told me this secret. It really works well!

| I don't have carpet, but my MIL uses 409 or Spray-n-wash or Dawn (whichever she has on hand...she has used them all)...she has a really light grey carpet and it is always nice and clean and smells good.
