| Healthy hair My hair has been really crappy lately. I have naturally curly hair and it use to be really long. Well while I was pregnant I got it chopped off up to my shoulder. I love it shorter and it is so much easier now that I have my son. Since I've had my son my hair has gotten better and worse. It feels healthier. It use to be so fuzzy but now it is more silky. The bad part is it is falling out like crazy. I'm not talking a few strands here and there, it's really bad. Thank goodness for the thick hair I use to have. It is so bad I clog our drain every other month, every other day I have to clean my brush because so much hair collects on it, and just huge strands fall into my hands while I'm styling my hair. I use to be so proud of my hair. There was rarely a time I didn't go to the store and someone didn't compliment me on my hair. I miss that. We have no clue what is causing my hair to do this. I went to the doctor a couple weeks ago and they thought it was my thyroid. I figured it wasn't because they thought my thyroid was messed up awhile back and it wasn't. They have done testing through ultrasound and bloodwork and so that is fine. The only thing I can think could be causing it is my low iron. After I had Chase my iron was tested low. They said I was borderline anemic (sp). I was put on pills but after the first couple times taking them it cramped my stomach so bad I thought I was having Chase all over again. Could it be my iron is still low and causing it? I have a poor diet, could that be it? My mom has been going through the same exact thing with her hair this year but they said hers was due to stress. I am stressed but I feel like it has gotten better. My doctor didn't act like I was going bald anytime soon, but he must not remember how my hair use to be. I know it must be getting bad if my hubby said something about it. He never would unless it was concerning him. I haven't been really that emotional about it until last week when we got our family Christmas pictures taken and my hair seemed half there to me. Should I take a vitamin to make my hair healthy? Would that work? I didn't know if anyone else has experienced this and what you had to do. Here is a picture of the difference. The first picture is of how my hair use to be when it was long. The second picture is of the Indiana YT meet-up, it was last September. My hair has even shedded lots since then so you can imagine. I just don't know what to do.

My sister is having the same problem...they are still running tests but she has low vitamin b12 and they think that may be the cause. I guess I would just suggest your dr. run some tests. I hope things get better for you!

I really, really understand! I have very thick curly hair too and donated it all last summer but now that it's growing out I'm losing it by the handfulls. I have the drain catchers in my shower and bathroom sink. My dr tested my thyroid and blood too. Then said it was probably just stress so I'm trying to relax more but I'm still losing it a lot. It's scary and I hate it. I'm sorry that you are going through this, I know how it feels.

I went through the same thing last year; mine was stress-related. The good thing is that it isn't a more serious health issue, the bad part is that it doesn't quit until you can get a grip on things. I have stopped losing the excessive amounts and am in the regrowth stage finally, but I've had to be on anti-anxiety meds. How long has it been since you had your son? Also, I used to read a forum on Telogen Effluvium which helped me to put things into perspective. I believe some women on that board said theirs was caused by low iron. I hope they find the cause of yours soon! I can sympathize with the frustration and sadness associated with this problem.

This happened to a friend of mine a couple years back. For her the cause was stress, and she had a really poor diet. Since then she has been eating better, trying to contain the stress level, and even tried rogaine products to prevent any more hair falling out. At the same time her mother was having the same problem, but it was more of a stress, and aging issue.
