| CT CT - If you have ever had a child with the croup, it sounds like that. They sound like they are honking and are gasping for air. I agree, most of the time they only do it when they are excited, scared, etc., but last fall Chloe had the worst attack ever.. Nothing set off, she was sitting there and all of a sudden she started coughing and could not stop. We took her to the animal hospital and they took her from me immediately. She was put on oxygen (for the whole night) and sedated. They let her out the next afternoon. When I take Maddi for a walk (and Chloe) Chloe can only walk for a little while, then when she starts having a hard time to breath, I pop her in the stroller and she can socialize with us. She knows it and loves the stroller.

| I still don't know either, my guess is CT, but it's only a guess. Sounds like what Spencer did...but maybe not...anyway I feel for her, even though she doesn't seem in pain, poor Ralphie...Hope someone can find the answer for you. I would think the vet would know for sure, but then again 2 different vets may very well come to 2 different conclusions...so curious.

| Boy am I glad I found this thread. My 5 month old has been doing something similar to the reverse sneezing since yesterday (I've only had him a week), but actually sounds less severe. I think he probably just has a little cold, or maybe is the intranasal vaccine he just got yesterday. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi Katy - did you see my posts on page 3? I made 3 or 4 posts that supposedly show the reverse sneezing. I hope you can find out what's going on w/ Ralphie. Btw, have you asked Kathy about this and whether she sees this in her line at all?

| I saw my general Vet this weekend. I told him that her CT was starting again. I said she was really good all winter, but once Spring started, she started. He said b/c allergies will trigger it. I explained to him that 3 weeks ago (when it started this Spring) Roxy started to honk on a Friday and it was like every hour. I said, I was rubbing her throat and closing her nose but it wasn't really working. I told him that when we went to bed, Roxy would wake up throughout the night (like 10x) and would start the honking. I would get her to stop, but I kept my finger on her throat and it would continue to spasm until she'd fall asleep, then it would happen all over at least 10x. I got no sleep. Saturday, her throat was spasming all day, her tongue would stick out like a snake. I was on another group and they told me to cool down her pressure points (armpits, etc.) So I decided to shave her belly down and give her a bath (with the door shut). We were in the steam of the bathroom for about an hour and Roxy was absolutly fine after that. Anyway, the Vet said if that ever happens again that I have to go to them IMMEDIATLY to get her some meds. Ralpies video is EXACTLY how Roxy sounds and what Roxy does and she has CT. Also, the Vet Specialist was able to press on her throat and make Roxy honk, that's how they can tell it is CT |

| Baby reverse sneezes especially after she drinks fast. She tripods forward to catch her breath, and it's scary. I usually rub her throat, make her swallow to get a drink, or cover her nostrils. Good luck and keep us updated on Ralphie!

Today I sent both videos to the specialist Dr. Rasor. My own vet has not had the time.. and I sat up in that office today with no one seeing me. Then I called Dr. Rasor, and she said to send the vidoes over. So-- maybe I will have the final answer. Dr. Rasor said cough suppresent ( Turbodol?) is one thing that can give him. That and I get him to drink water and that seems to stop it. Anyway.. I think the final answer is near!

| Dr Hanzi-the first reply Ok.. here is what my vet saud.. I am still waiting for the specialist.. "Hi Carolyn, Although it wasn't very clear,,,,That really sounds like a "reverse sneeze " to me which can be triggered by allergies. One of my dogs actually does it on a larger scale (of course) and if you cup the palm of your hand and hold over his nose and mouth for approx. 10 sec. you can usually break the cycle. If it gets excessive you can give some benedryl (1 mg /pound) . See if that helps. A collapsing tracheal cough is usually more of just that....a cough. Another thing, It was kind of hard for me to see but to verify if it is reverse sneezing than check to see if he is inhaling or exhaling during the honk. That will clarify it. I couldn't see on my computer. Your welcome, Marlene Hanzi" I am not sure what it means depending if he is inhaling or exhaling. during the event. so I asked her that too. Waitng now on the other review.. Katy

| Well at least you got a response from the vet...I showed my husband Ralphie's video, thinking maybe he could remember better then me how Spencer sounded...He didn't think it sounded that much alike. He thought Spencer's was more like trying to cough up a hairball, or as your vet said on the exhale. So maybe your baby does have allergies, and that's why he responds to Benedryl, that never helped Spencer...Still just guessing!!!

| Dr. Rasor's review.. Ok.. think I have the answer! And it makes sense ( it's good news too). Dr. Rasor says it appears to be reverse sneezing. She asked if he opens his mouth while he is doing it. The answer is no--he does not. She said- well, since dogs are not polite, if it was CT, that is a COUGH, and he would be opening his mouth.! She says more than likely-- its a form of reverse sneezing. CT is a cough. So! I think I can feel better about this now! Hope this helps other people out there in YT land as well!
