I agree, my last yorkie had Ct & my Jaxon has reverse sneezing. Jaxon doesn't sound anything like this & only does it when I come home from work & he is excited. My old yorkie did have CT & we just had to live with it!! I know it sounds terrible. Keep us posted!!!

Thanks so much for posting this. My Roxy does this. In the winter months she is fine, but it just started to pick up again a couple of weeks ago. She sounds just like Raphie.

When Roxy was at the Specialist for her LP surgery I told the Dr. about the noise. The Dr. pressed her throat and Roxy started to make the noise. She said Roxy does have CT. They did an x-ray of her throat and chest before the LP surgery to see 'how bad' the CT was. But in a resting postition, her T was ok. So the Dr. said it is just mild.

But I don't know...:confused: :confused: :confused:
That video of Ralphie is EXACTLY - EVERYTHING ABOUT IT (same loud noise, same posture, etc...) what Roxy does

She used to do it alot when she was excited, now she does it for no reason. A couple of weeks ago, she was doing it all night and once I got her to stop make the loud noise, her throat was still in a spasm, I kept rubbing her throat and it would finally stop and we'd fall alseep, only to be awoken by the loud noise again. It went on at least 10 x during the night. The next morning I was on another group who told me to cool down her pressure points (under arms and belly).

Since Roxy needed a bath anyway, I shaved down her belly and arm pits and put her in the bath. After the bath and breathing in the steam she was fine.

PLEASE let me know what your Vet says after he sees the Video.

Hi, It's me again. As Kathy said, try not to get Ralphie too excited.A CT is very common in small dogs and when they get excited, they will start making that noise.They are having trouble breathing. It can also be caused by a collar and leash when you walk them but Chloe never wore one, so she did not get it from that.

It seems that Chloe's problem has gotten worse over the years but seems to have stabilized now. She also has respitory problems (related to a CT? - I don't know). She has meds for her lungs that she takes every day and a med for coughing when she needs it. When we travel in our RV she does take the cough med every day-it also calms her.

Also, when we go for a walk, Chloe and Maddi walk with me, but as soon as I hear Chloe having a problem breathing, in the stroller she goes and she LOVES it. That way we can go for a longer walk and she can socialize with us. My vet loves this part.. Hope this info helps, any more ?'s m let me know. :)

Ralphie does this at nite..he does it when excited, and when he licks thigs that are dry.. like the bed.

He stops often if I can get him to drink water from my fingers..sometimes its worse than this, sometimes not at all.

He gets excited when there are dogs outside, and this starts him going.

Often if I give him Benedryl he will relax .

Any other videos of Trac collapse would be apprecaited on this thread!

This is EXACTLY what Yogi does, but his is a series of 5-6 in row, one right after the other...Our vet said the sound of a CT and reverse sneezing sound very similiar and the only way to differentiate the two is by x-ray or looking into their trachea with a scope. Our tests were negative on Yogi, he only does it if he's excited or allergy season. He actually wretches with his back legs spread out and its quite sad. He can go for a long period of time without doing it. I can also distract him by saying,"wheres the turtle" he immediately stops and goes and looks for the turtle. Vet also said, thats not a ct if he can just stop...so the real test is letting the vet listen when it happens or having the medical tests to rule out a ct. Yogi had Kennel cough 3 days after we got him and it took a good 3 weeks for him to get over it, so he's got some scar tissue in his trachea supposedly from the extreme coughing...your little guy sounds just like ours here..Benadryl has helped us too. Vet said that unless Ralphie is doing it at the time I bring him in.. they can not tell by the X-Ray. has anyone heard any different?

I can not stop Ralph once he startes except tp try and get him to drink some water.

Any reverse sneeze videos out there?? I think the videos can be a great tool for YT as other can SEE what we are having a problem with, and can comment. Thanks for every ones feedback so far.. Love my little guy, he is a cutie, and I am VERY attached to him..

I also heard when they are having an attack to lift their front paws up towards the sky.

As a matter of fact, Roxy did 2 honks in a row and I lifted up her front paws and she stopped.

so here is something i have noticed, luna does this when she gets a hold of something spicy. For example i was eating a burger with jalepeno's on it and i guess i dripped some juice on my shirt she licked it and immdtly started having a "fit".

Thats good information. I'm going to try this next time Yogi does it....This worries me now about not being able to get a correct diagnosis with x-ray unless it happening...makes me wonder if we actually have a ct instead of what ever this is...wish we could find a video of reverse sneezing too....

I agree, this is a great thread, very interesting. Wish someone had a video of the reverse sneezing, I've never heard it before. When Spencer was diagnosed with CT, many years ago, the vet had heard him actually doing it, he was pretty overweight, about 13 pounds, and the vet said it could improve if he loss some weight. Well we got him down to about 10 pounds, and it didn't happen as often, but it was definitely still there. But years later when he started having the lung, and heart problems, you could really see the collapsed trachea on his chest x-rays, poor little guy was really struggling to breath and he "honked" like that a lot more often. He was just 11 years old when he passed away, quietly in his sleep, after a rather bad night. So maybe it depends on how severe it is, as to whether or not it will show up on an x-ray, but I know it was there, I saw the films myself. Any more thoughts, comments or videos would be very helpful!!!

When kikko has a fit, I rub his chest to comfort him. then I lift his nose toward the sky and open his mouth, this makes him breath through his mouth. This usually stops him.

Rini (fellow YTer) also explained to me another way, that's similar to the first few steps of CPR. You "GENTLY PUSH THE HEAD DOWN TOWARD THE CHEST WHILE HOLDING THE NOSE CLOSED. That makes themdraw in a breath thru their mouths and the spasm will ease up and the mucosawill separate." And she also said not to make the CT spasms into a HUGE deal b/c yorkies are smart lil critters, and could 'fake' it to get attention.
