| You should consider brushing his teeth daily. It's the perfect time to start, especially since he's still a puppy. It'll be a struggle at first, so start slowly. Make sure you only use dog toothpaste. That should help with the bad breath, but more importantly, prevent future major health issues linked to their teeth. Also, many who don't brush their Yorkies' teeth, end up having to remove the teeth. I've encountered numerous past Yorkie owners who told me that they had their dogs' teeth all removed before even 5 years old! About his eyes - feed a good quality food. Change his water dish at least once daily. Give him either filtered water or bottled water (not tap). Clean his food and water dish daily. Make sure to wipe his eyes several times daily too to keep it free from eye-gunk that can harden around the eyes and be very uncomfortable.

| If our pup has bad breath it's usually a sign of something else.......off her feed, ate something not good for her, not drinking enough water, needs more teeth brushing, stress. Eye gunk also waxes and wanes but if it's cleaned off gently once a day there is less........it's like the more gunk that gets stuck in the hair, the more the eyes produce to try to fix it. So, daily gentle cleaning actually lessens the problem. I agree with all of the other advice about food, water, cleanliness etc. |

| Cleaning the eyes We use Earth Bath Eye Wipes and a flea comb that fits in the palm of the hand. First, soften up the gunk gently with the wipes. Any stuck pieces work out gently with your fingers if needed. When the area is mostly clean carefully use the flea comb to comb from the corner of the eye out to the ends of the hair. This gets out residue that the wipes and fingers miss and smooths the hair. A lot of people use plain water and a paper towel. If the area remains moist it can grow yeast, I was told. The wipes avoid that. |

| He may have some retained baby teeth & if so they will need to be removes as they may rot his adult teeth. Often the retained baby teeth are removed at the time of spay/neuter. |
