New Yorkie Hello All, I just purchased a new 8 week old yorkie and I just noticed that a tiny flea jumped on the couch. I believe that the flea came from the pup. I was wondering what should i do? Is he too young to have flea medication on him? Thank you

8 weeks is quite young for flea medication, my Vet wanted me to wait until 12 but my girl was very small. How big is you pup? If he's over 2 pounds they might go ahead and put flea medication on him. Just be careful what kind you use, make sure it is safe for puppies and make sure it is a good brand. They put Advantage on Jewelina when she was really little and I never had any problems with it whatsoever. In the meantime you could just give him a bath with some gentle shampoo and conditioner for puppies and blow dry him. That should kill any of the fleas that are on him. Also if you vacuum your couch, and around that area that should probably take care of that flea too. Those are things you could do now if you wanted to wait a few weeks until your pup is bigger and older to put him on flea medication.

Try giving him a bath in Dawn dishsoap -- it kills fleas.

You can put an herbal all natural flea powder on the pup without any problem. It's about $10.00 in Petsmart or Petco.
