| Maggie outside today I am trying to teach maggie she has to come to me when we're outside the fence without a leash the last few days. shes done great too. today was so beautiful, my brother was fishing by our lake (pond) whatever. its about and acre. So thought I would take her down and get some pics of her there. he flipped a minnow out of the minnow bucket and she ran to get it. she played with it a while, but when the minnow would flip she would jump back. I got one of her with it in her mouth and another with her scratching at it. LOL and just a few others of her playing and running around. She did really great about coming to me each time I called her. I'm so proud of her today. here are the pictures. the first two are with the minnow. I circled the minnow so maybe you can tell its there in the grass. I have a few more i'm sending in the next thread.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | nice pictures! good luck with the off leash training. I tried that with morgan when she was younger. i didn't use a leash on her when we were in the backyard (not fenced in) for the longest time because she couldn't run fast enough to get away from me....until one day. she heard the dog across the street and three houses down come out of the house (must have heard the tags on the collar because i sure didn't hear anything) and she took off like a bat out of hell to go play with her. She ran across the street (luckily no cars were around) and into their yard. ever since then she's always been leashed outside. even tho she is trained to come when called i just don't trust her outside because she is a terrier. When she sees something she really wants she puts ear plugs in and just doesnt listen to me.

| thanks all, and yes Kalina. I know I cant let her off without being really close and I wont be doing it all the time. I look and make sure there is no dogs out when I do that. I live out and my sister lives in the next house up and then another sister on up from her. I pretty well know the dogs that are around here and I do know if one came out and she saw it, she would take off after it. But actually, I worry more about her sensing a smell or a squirrel close by in the woods and running that way into the woods and I know we would never find her. So I really keep her close to me. So far shes done great but no, I dont trust her that much still. thanks for telling me what happened tho. I also worry about hawks in our area. thanks again all

oh no, I read your post and no way did it come off like that. lol , sorry if I said anything in my reply to make it sound that way. I know its scary cause maggie has gotten out of our gate before and it scared me bad. I was sorry you went thru such a scare because I understand. I just want her to know to come to me enough to come when i call her just in case she gets out anymore. sorry. we live out and its not as much a dog situation or car hitting her as getting into the woods outside. She has a mind of her own also, thats why I'm trying to teach her so maybe she will come to me if it should happen. sorry if I said something to give the wrong impression.

| You guys are both so lucky you can go off leash at all!! Sissy totally has a mind of her own and does just what SHE pleases. No off leash ever if we're out of our fenced yard!! And Angel - well, I can't even put her down in the back yard without her taking off and us running around like banchees to try to get her again. She goes right into the X-pen. A dog trainer I obviously am not!!
