| Congrats on your soon to be baby!! I am so happy for you.. I have had Mocha about 1.5 months and i am so happy.. The hardest thing is the potty training and the biting and barking.. The best thing about her is having her there every morning waiting for you and staring at you with those adorable little eyes... Also, dressing her up is so much fun!! Good luck

| hmmm, how about I make a list of what I bought the day I got her. Eukanuba puppy Food LOTS of toys 2 beds(couldn't decide which one I liked) a fairly large crate(for her anyway) a playyard wee wee pads a brush a metal comb treats a pink tee shirt collar lead food and water dishes baby wipes and of course most import you need to give her LOTS of LOVE(I'm sure that will be the easiest part) I think that was it, then a few days later I went online and bought a carrier, bows, and clothes. I know you don't have to have all of that the same day you get her, but it's what I bought and hope it might help.

| Additional puppy must-haves! Hi Jaira! How excited are you to get your little girl!?! I know we're all happy for you... Lexi is so right on! Just a few more things... Most importantly, a harness. When you train your pup to walk on a lead (leash) you should use a harness to ensure that she's safe.(It's easy to hurt a Yorkie's neck if you use a regular collar and a leash but the harness protects them by wrapping around their front legs and chest.) Also, I'm not sure if you plan to use a carrier but the harness is much safer just in case she hops out! You'll want to get her an ID tag (we're still working on it but it's a good idea...) A blanket (something for her crate at night) Nutri-cal - your breeder should either give you some or recommend it but it's important to have b/c of a Yorkie pup's tendency to suffer from hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) Treats - I like live-a-littles. (dehydrated chicken) but there are lots out there. we use them to reward him for going on his puppy pads and for responding well to his training (e.g., sitting, lying down, etc.) Lexi's mommy is dead on with baby wipes. After Mojito goes to the bathroom, I tend to wipe him. Just make sure they're unscented, alcohol-free and hypo-allergenic. Lastly, not sure if you've already done this, but buy some books on training dogs -- also Yorkie specific books. I like "Good owners, great dogs" by Brian Kilcommons and "Your Yorkshire Terrier's Life -- your complete guide to raising your pet from puppy to companion" by Elaine Waldorf Gewirtz. (Don't take the books too seriously... when we got him, a couple of fellow dog owners/groomers/breeders told us to use our instincts - After a few days it sets in and you kinda know what to do...) Best of luck xxoo -Mojito & Irmi |

| The first thing I bought before I got my little boy was a set of fleece blankies in the Baby section of Wal-Mart. haha Don't forget the water bowls! Also, you might want to buy a tube of Nutracal just in case she's a finicky eater. I posted the same thread before I got Fred (http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2289) and I'm just reiterating what other members told me in it! (The thread might help you! Theres so much useful info in there!) And also, don't forget to get lots of sleep for YOU the night before! lol |
