| yorkie heat I need to know if my yorkie has come into heat. she is 20 mo. old and as far as i can tell hasn't come into heat. She gets very friendly with our cat and licks alot about every 4 mo. or so, but doesn't have any significant swelling or bleeding that I can tell. I want to breed her, but am not sure what to do since I can't tell if she is in a real heat. help |

| Without going to a vet, the only thing I could advise is to watch her very carefully and when you notice her acting sweeter, see any swelling and notice her licking her vulva, barely insert a Q-tip to see if there is any blood. Then if you're wanting to breed take her around a male and see how they act when the blood is no longer red and the discharge is straw colored. You can usually run your hand down a females back with a firm pressure and she will lift her tail and move it to one side when she is receptive (this is called flagging). |
