Wouldn't it be nice if we could all get together to celebrate their birthdays.... Raiza: I'm glad to hear Cosita is eating better. They need to eat to keep up their energy. Well Cookie is the one that is not eating very well now. She started teething so I'm sure the discomfort that it comes along with is to blame. She will be 5 months this Sun. so I guess its about that time. She looks adorable with the little gap, her 2 front bottom teeth are missing. Anyone else going through the teething stages with their furbaby? Any recommendations from those of you that have gone through this stage with your baby? -RubyC

All of Higgins baby teeth were firmly implanted, with no sign of adult teeth emerging, when he was neutered at 5 months. So, they didn't take any out. About 1 month later ALL the adult teeth arrived. And all the baby teeth came out (never found any, though), EXCEPT the four canines. Well, he is now 8 1/2 months old, so the vet is going to remove the baby canines tomorrow. It means anesthesia, and even though he didn't have a problem last time, it worries me. I'll be in here biting my fingernails until he's "out." The tell me that it goes really, really fast so not to worry.

| Toto's baby teeth had to be removed when she was spayed. She shed very few of the baby ones before they were removed! Poor baby had a big mouth full of teeth for a while and just drooled something terrible while she was teething! We bought some of those little infant "finger" toothbrushes and would sit and massage her little gums and it helped. We also made sure she had plenty of chew toys and she did lots of gnawing!

I'm so far behind I feel like I will never catch up!!! I'm sure Mr. Higgy did fine and it probably didn't slow him down but about 5 minutes!!!

Higgy did just great! He has a little cough, but I expect that is from the anesthesia. You wouldn't know he had anything done! Now it helps that we are taking care of our Grandpuppy, Princess, the long-haired Chihuahua, while my son and his bride are on a cruise. (Hoping they are well away from the new tropical storm, Jean!) These two LOVE each other and run and romp and play all day. They are sooooo cute together! She is mostly white with brown markings -- very attractive, and a beautiful coat -- so she looks like a little princess next to my rough, tough wiry little devil. They are exactly the same size, although she is much lighter than Higgins. Higgins will be devastated when she goes home! Bettyeanne, I'm so worried about you and Ivan The Terrible! Our prayers are with you and your family that all will be well and you won't have any damage. PLEASE KEEP US POSTED! Love and hugs, m.e.

Tell him that we won't mention to "Miss Prissy Paws" that he's entertaining Princess!! Toto went to the vet yesterday also. We just recently found out that they groom at Dr. Lucy's! We had a vet visit and grooming scheduled and at the last minute Cindy had an emergency with my Mom so Patrick volunteered to handle the "dirty deed" alone! I was worried about the grooming part because I'm so darned picky ... briefed him with my "grown up" voice!! He wanted something done about the long hair in the rear area because it's all grown so long that when Toto pee pees she invariably gets her little "skirt" wet and usually goes straight to Papa to be picked up! She also gets little poops caught in the long hair and that really doesn't sit well with him. So "Einstein" just couldn't understand why the little butt couldn't be cropped or even shaved!! I threatened him if my baby came back looking like an orangatang that "someone" would be in deep caa caa!! Dr. Lucy personally handled the grooming after totally shooting down anything being cropped or shaved!! [I love that Dr.] She didn't want to shorten any hair except for shaping and she wants us to try just "banding" the long hair at the rear of her little hips and the long tail hair! She looks so cute ... has an even prissier walk ... I believe this will work! Pat said Toto totally left them in place and only showed any interest in them one time and he just told her no and she doesn't even act like she knows they are there!! I believe this will work! I will not mind the long drive and the several hours required for Dr. Lucy to groom her from now on! Also ... her checkup was fine .... found nothing amiss ... except ... one extra ounce!! Yep ... 4 lbs 1 oz!! Oh well, we won't sweat the small stuff ... besides she just came off a trip with practically no exercise so I think she will burn it off in no time! Now ... about Ivan ... although we are in east central Alabama we really dread this! Our prayers are with everyone who are closer to the Gulf but we are expecting some really bad weather here. Patrick wanted to hook up the Casita and get as far as we could from here and I would have readily agreed ... but ... I can't leave my Mom and there's no way we could take her that distance! By 6pm Thursday our local weather man just said to expect 60-90 mile winds!! THAT could take out the mighty oak in our front yard!! We have already made preparations ... water, food, flashlights, Yorkie, etc. We have the Casita all charged up and ready ... if we lose power [and they are sure we will] we can at least have lights and stuff in there! Cindy and I have made sure that we have plenty of portable oxygen, meds, etc. for Mother ... the only thing we worry about is if it gets really hot .. she cannot breathe if she gets hot and she really panics! We will all be focused on her so I feel confident she will be fine! Patrick and my son have lots of propane tanks for their grills so the "men" will cook [thank God for covered outdoor cooking areas!]! At any rate ... we have pretty much done everything that we can do ... schools here will be closed Thursday and Friday. It's in God's hands now so pray that there will be no lives lost!! We love you guys!!

Bettye.....Don't you and Patrick have a Honda 2000 generator? If you do, it will operate the Casita air conditioning just fine. That could keep your mother cool........Just get in a supply of gasoline to keep it running. At least we have the Casitas! It's nice to know that when things are threatening. We are glued to CNN and sending up prayers for you. If you get a chance, before the big winds take down phone lines, give us a call and let us know how it's going..... Love and hugs to all of you! M.E. and Don

Probably won't see any damage much here until tomorrow ... I think it will be easier for us [if any of it is easier] to face it during the daylight hours ... meantime, just keep praying that thing slows down and spares Destin! Spoke with our friends a little while ago ... they're "holed up" in Texas in a hotel. Their daughter and her family drove from Destin to Baton Rouge, LA and it took them 11 hours because of so many evacuating! She is just beside herself because they know they will probably find their beautiful new condo destroyed! Other friends have a condo in Pensacola and are also devistated! Maybe I will rethink that Florida retirement thing?! It's beginning to look like it may come ashore at Gulf Shores, AL ... beautiful coastal city!Much love to you, Don and the "boys"! We will call you tomorrow!!

If you can read this, you've got POWER! And I sure hope you do and that you and your family are all SAFE! We spent last December at Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores, AL, and it is just awful to see the devastation there. It makes it so much more personal when you have enjoyed visiting such a lovely place and then it is so damaged. There are so many beautiful trees in that park that must be so torn apart..... Love that whole coast! Dang! Go away, Ivan, and leave my friends alone!!!! Love and hugs to you and Patrick and Toto, from me and Don and Higgins and Pogo!

Cookie is a real cookie...she is beautiful.. I got Gucci in Bklyn NY too... she has the same coloring as Cookie. Gucci has greyish strands on top, does that mean her color will change? Gucci was born June 22, 04 and she weighs 4.5 pds. I feed her 3x a day and dry food only.. How much are you suppose to give these dogs. I don't want to over or underfeed? I usually give her a handful she loves her food...
