| Colby my new yorkie Hello everyone, My name is Bob, and my yorkies name is Colby. He is 4 months old , we have had him since Feb 14th 05.I am glad that I have found this forum. My wife and I did our research on puppies and we got prepaired. On our first night we had Colby in the cage and in our bed room, big mistake, he cried all night. The next night he spent the night in his cage and in the family room.Colby cried just alittle, and then slept the whole night. He has been there since. We set up a bell by the back door, and everytime we took him out side we would take his paw and ring the bell.Within a week he was ringing the bell to go out side, not to say he has had no s in the house. Now at just over 4 months old he rings the bell to go out, and yes we give him a treat when he comes in.There is still alot of trianing to do,and its alot of fun. Good Luck to all,and I will keep you posted. Colbies Dad. |

| Yay for Colby! Welcome to YorkieTalk! Ours is 7mo. old and my husband picked him out. He's always wanted a yorkie and our Sully is really our pride and joy. Until we have kids, that is.....but that's still a good 4-5 years away.

| Hello, me again Bob along with Colby. Still trying to post a picture, only 29kb and my pics are about 400, need to down size them. Thanks for the replies. Colby is doing great, my wife takes care of him in the day and I take care of him in the evening.I would like to know how to control his teething on my fingers,he has alot of toys and bones to chew on.Also does anyone elses Yorkies hold their bone in their paws,Colby holds his bone almost like an otter,if I can I will try to take a picture of him holding his bone.Tonight may be the first time I have not taken Colby out for a walk do to rain.I have been taking him on a walk every night since Feb.14th. even in the snow,he loves it.Know that it is getting warm outside he love to met other people and dogs on the walk.I do warn people that he is teething like a baby and he not trying to bit you. Thanks Colby and his dad |

| Calis'sMom,My wife and I picked up some video's about training dogs, and they showed how to train your dog to ring the bell to go outside and go potty. We got some chain (light chain) and fastened it to the wall about 24 inches from the floor with the bell on it.Next comes the training with your Yorkie. On the first day we had him we picked him up and took his paw and rang the bell, every time he went out we helped him ring it and gave him a treat. He learned within the first week we had him to ring the bell on his own.He did have his accidents in the house also. Now he will ring it but we still keep an eye on him because he had some near misses with the bell, meaning that he went to ring it and missed it,so we pick him up and help him again. He is not 100% house trained yet,but the bell is working and you need to keep working with your Yorkie on it and always reward him with treats.By the way the treats we give him is his own food he eats for his meals, one, they are small and he can eat them fast,so he doesn't take forever to finsh his treat,2nd.he thinks they are something great even though he has a bowl full in the kitchen. Good luck |
